    Chapter Index

Countless wary and malicious gazes swept across Lin Xiao’s body. The entire resort was swarming with gang members, numbering at least in the hundreds, sealing off every possible escape route.

Beads of cold sweat rolled down Old Jin’s face as his heart pounded violently. One hand had already slipped inside his coat, gripping the handle of his gun tightly. Without realizing it, his palm was slick with sweat.

The subordinates following him were equally on edge, their sharp eyes scanning their surroundings as their hands clutched their concealed firearms. At the first sign of trouble, they were prepared to open fire.

Yet, Lin Xiao alone remained completely unaffected, his expression as calm as ever. His breathing never faltered. It was steady and unchanging, as if the overwhelming presence of armed men around him didn’t exist.

After walking a short distance, Lin Xiao abruptly stopped and spoke for the first time.

“I have arrived as promised. Where is my host?”

As soon as these words left his mouth, they rang through the resort like rolling thunder, echoing through the vast expanse.

“I have arrived as promised. Where is my host…”

    “Where is my host…”

His voice reached the main hall, causing different reactions among those inside.

Hao Lifeng and Cheng Pingyang’s faces darkened, a murderous glint flashing in their eyes. Ma Qingye, on the other hand, shuddered, his face betraying deep apprehension.

As for the other three, Lei Qianting remained motionless, not even lifting an eyelid, while the two behind him, Tang Heng and Ji Wei, showed slight traces of surprise.

“He actually dared to come.” Hao Lifeng chuckled coldly as he rose from the sofa. “Boss Cheng, Boss Ma, shall we go and welcome our esteemed guest together?”

Cheng Pingyang scoffed. “Of course. I’ve been wanting to see if this guy is really as formidable as the rumors claim.”

Ma Qingye hesitated for a moment before nodding firmly. “Let’s go. What’s done is done. Are we supposed to fear him now?”

The three of them exchanged a glance with Lei Qianting before making their way toward the entrance. It didn’t take long before they caught sight of Lin Xiao.

“So this is the Lin Xiao everyone’s talking about?”

Cheng Pingyang curled his lips in disdain and let out a mocking chuckle. “He looks like nothing special. Just an ordinary guy.”

“Don’t judge a book by its cover,” Ma Qingye warned, staring at Lin Xiao intently. “He may not stand out, but that’s just a disguise. We must not engage him ourselves. Leave everything to Master Lei.”

As they spoke, the three approached Lin Xiao. Hao Lifeng’s gaze first swept over Old Jin and his men before finally settling on Lin Xiao.

“So, this must be Mr. Lin?”

Lin Xiao remained expressionless, not bothering to reply.

“Mr. Lin, it is truly an honor that you accepted our invitation.” Hao Lifeng smiled, though the insincerity in his tone was evident. “We were unaware of your arrival and may have been negligent in our reception. Please forgive us.”

Still, Lin Xiao did not respond. Instead, Old Jin sneered and interjected, “Hao Lifeng, let’s cut the nonsense. We all know exactly why you arranged this gathering. Why bother with these empty pleasantries? Just lay your cards on the table.”

Hao Lifeng’s face darkened, but he quickly masked his displeasure. He took a step aside and gestured toward the hall. “Then please, this way.”

Lin Xiao brushed past him and headed toward the hall. However, after only a few steps, an arm suddenly stretched out, blocking his path.

    “Stop right there!”

    “Hmm?”

Lin Xiao hadn’t expected anyone to be so bold as to provoke him at this moment. He turned his head slightly to look at the person who had spoken.

    It was Cheng Pingyang.

He had been observing Lin Xiao closely, yet found nothing particularly remarkable about him. Unable to suppress his curiosity, he decided to test him.

In Cheng Pingyang’s mind, they were surrounded by members of the three largest gangs, all heavily armed. Lin Xiao had merely twenty-something men with him, vastly outnumbered. With such an overwhelming advantage, what was there to fear?

Standing beside him, Ma Qingye’s back was drenched in cold sweat. Without hesitation, he took a step back, widening the distance between himself and Cheng Pingyang.

He hadn’t expected Cheng Pingyang to be this reckless. If things escalated and he got caught in the crossfire, he’d have no one to blame but himself.

“I am Cheng Pingyang, the leader of the Scarlet Tiger Gang. I’ve heard you’re quite skilled, crushing Boss Ma’s iron spheres with one hand, wasn’t it?”

Cheng Pingyang crossed his arms, his voice filled with provocation. “Why don’t you show me that trick? And let me give you a warning, don’t even think about attacking me. There are three hundred men here, and each one has a gun pointed at you. No matter how strong you are, you can’t possibly escape.”

Lin Xiao lifted his bandage-wrapped hand and flexed his fingers lazily. “The only reason I came was to see what tricks you had up your sleeves.” His voice remained indifferent. “But if you think this pathetic show of force is enough to handle me, then I must say, I’m disappointed.”

“Oh, don’t worry,” Cheng Pingyang sneered. “We have more than just this prepared. The real question is, are you even worthy of seeing it?”

Cheng Pingyang grew bolder, his arrogance swelling. He was a ruthless man, daring and unafraid. Despite hearing of Lin Xiao’s reputation, he still had his doubts. “To be honest, I’m not afraid of you at all. If you think you’re so tough, why don’t you try—”

Before he could finish his sentence, his throat suddenly tightened.

The words caught in his mouth, his eyes bulging in disbelief.

A bandaged hand had appeared before him, gripping his neck and lifting him high into the air.

    “Hiss—”

Hao Lifeng and Ma Qingye gasped sharply. Even though they had been standing right next to Cheng Pingyang, they hadn’t even seen Lin Xiao make a move.

    It was too fast.

    Unbelievably fast.

They had only seen a blur, and in the blink of an eye, Lin Xiao had Cheng Pingyang by the throat.

The distance between them had been at least three meters. Cheng Pingyang had relied on this gap to give himself confidence, believing that even if Lin Xiao attacked, he would have enough time to react.

But reality proved him terribly wrong.

He had severely underestimated Lin Xiao’s strength. And now, he would pay for his mistake.

“You wanted to see what I can do?” Lin Xiao’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. “Very well. I’ll let you experience it firsthand.”

Without hesitation, he swung his arm.

Cheng Pingyang’s body flew through the air like a cannonball, accompanied by a long, agonized scream. He hurtled over ten meters before slamming into a wall.

A dull thud echoed as his body slid down the wall, leaving a gruesome trail of blood.

His head, chest, limbs—his entire body—had been shattered upon impact, crushed beyond recognition by Lin Xiao’s terrifying strength.

    “Guh… guh…”

Cheng Pingyang let out a few strangled, gurgling sounds before his body went completely still. His eyes were wide open, lifeless.

A man who had ruled the underworld for years, the leader of a powerful gang, had been killed as effortlessly as one would slaughter a chicken.

And the one who had killed him, Lin Xiao, remained as calm as ever.

Expressionless, he turned his gaze to Hao Lifeng and said indifferently,

“And you? Do you also wish to see what I can do?”
