    Chapter Index

    The next day, early morning.

    Ding! Ling! Ling!

Yuan Yu was startled awake by her alarm clock. She groggily opened her eyes.

Staring at the ceiling in a daze for a while, she stretched lazily and rolled over from her side to lie face down. The thin blanket slid off her body, revealing two tender, slender, long legs and a curvaceous, youthful figure.

She wore a nearly see-through light pink short shirt on her upper body and a pair of red knee-length shorts with little bear prints on the bottom. Her smooth, silky hair spilled over her shoulders, and her exquisite face still carried traces of sleepiness. She looked as lazy and comfortable as a kitten.

“I think I fell asleep on the sofa yesterday. Did Big Brother Lin carry me into the room?”

A faint blush appeared on her cheeks. She burrowed back under the covers and only regained her composure after a while.

Propping her cheek on her hand, Yuan Yu half-opened her bright eyes, lying there absentmindedly. Though awake, she didn’t feel like getting up.

She used to be quite diligent, usually getting up before 7 a.m. to cook breakfast before heading to school. But ever since Lin Xiao arrived, she had grown fonder of sleeping in, and her wake-up time had gradually gotten later.

To Yuan Yu, this change wasn’t necessarily bad, because this was what a girl her age should be like.

The old Yuan Yu had to take care of her ailing mother while worrying about her future and studies. Her days were filled with endless busyness. She simply had no right to sleep in.

Lin Xiao’s arrival had changed Yuan Yu’s life—and her personality too.

    Knock! Knock!

Just as Yuan Yu was spacing out, a knock suddenly sounded from outside the room, followed by Lin Xiao’s voice, “Little Yu, hurry up and get up. You’ll be late for class.”

Yuan Yu snapped out of her daydream. Her supporting arm gave way, and she fell back into the soft bed, closing her eyes and pretending to sleep.

Lin Xiao waited outside the door for a minute. When he still heard no reply, he pushed the door open and walked into her bedroom.

Like all teenage girls, Yuan Yu’s room was small and tidy, with a faint pleasant scent lingering in the air. Everything was neatly arranged, even her shoes lined up side by side, showing the meticulousness of a young girl.

On the desk near the window sat a small photo frame, inside which was a picture of Lin Xiao and Yuan Yu taken during an outing some time ago. The girl in the photo was beautiful and ethereal, like a fairy.

This was Lin Xiao’s first time seriously observing Yuan Yu’s room. The night before had been too late, and he hadn’t wanted to disturb her rest, so he hadn’t looked around then.

Seeing Yuan Yu lying in bed, Lin Xiao said helplessly, “Still not getting up? I know you’re pretending to sleep.”

Yuan Yu didn’t move, showing no reaction to his words, as if she hadn’t heard him. But if one looked closely, her thick eyelashes were quivering slightly.

Lin Xiao felt both annoyed and amused. He couldn’t help but raise his hand and give her round, perky little butt a slap.

The slap was neither too light nor too hard, making a crisp sound. Yuan Yu’s perfectly shaped rear bounced Lin Xiao’s hand right back up.

Getting smacked, Yuan Yu could no longer pretend to sleep. Her body trembled, and her fair little face turned bright red. She pulled up the blanket to cover herself, burying her whole face into the pillow in embarrassment.

Though the sensation of that touch still lingered on Lin Xiao’s palm, his expression remained unchanged. He reached out and rubbed Yuan Yu’s hair.

“I’ll wait outside. Hurry up, okay?”

With that, Lin Xiao walked out and closed the door behind him.

About ten minutes later, Yuan Yu slowly got dressed and out of bed. The blush hadn’t faded from her face, and her gaze shimmered with a natural, elegant beauty.

During breakfast, Yuan Yu sipped porridge while sneaking glances at Lin Xiao. But every time he looked up, she’d immediately lower her head in a panic.

“Is something wrong?” Lin Xiao noticed her odd behavior and spoke up.

“Big Brother Lin… did you carry me to my room last night?”

    “Yes, what about it?”

“N-nothing, nothing.” Yuan Yu blushed furiously.

“Next time, don’t wait up for me. Sometimes when I get busy, I don’t know when I’ll be home. You’ll catch a cold easily sleeping on the sofa.”

“Mm… I understand.” Yuan Yu took a small sip of porridge and asked softly, “Um… Big Brother Lin, are you very busy today?”

Lin Xiao thought for a moment. “Not really. Why?”

“If you’re not busy… could you spare a morning to come with me to the school sports day?”

Yuan Yu mustered her courage to meet Lin Xiao’s eyes, shyness hiding in her bright gaze. “If it’s inconvenient, then forget I said anything.”

    “You want me to come?”

“Mm.” Yuan Yu nodded without hesitation. “I want Big Brother Lin to come with me.”

If it were anyone else—not even her own mother—she wouldn’t have said something so straightforward. But after spending time with Lin Xiao, she felt no need to hold anything back from him.

“Alright then, I’ll go with you to the sports day.” Lin Xiao smiled. “Hurry and finish eating. We’ll head out once we’re done.”

Yuan Yu’s eyes lit up instantly, shining with joy. She nodded happily. “Okay!”

After breakfast, Lin Xiao drove the Cayenne and took Yuan Yu to Guanglai High School.

On the way, he called Wan Caixuan and said he needed to take half a day off. Wan Caixuan didn’t say much, didn’t even ask for a reason, and agreed.

Roughly ten minutes later, the car arrived at Guanglai High School.

By then, the school entrance was already filled with luxury cars.

Lin Xiao parked the vehicle and followed Yuan Yu into the school.

Not long after they entered, a red Ferrari approached from a distance. The window rolled down, revealing a dignified and elegant face, beautiful and noble, with a faint smile on her lips and grace in every glance.

The security guards at the gate were momentarily stunned, a flash of amazement in their eyes. They instinctively straightened their backs. “Miss, are you here to attend the sports day as a parent?”

Huang Xinyu smiled and nodded. “Yes, I am.”

Sitting next to her was the cheerful Huang Caixing, who was on the phone with Yuan Yu.

Looking at Huang Xinyu’s smile, the guards felt their souls drifting. They quickly opened the gate and let her through.

Once inside, Huang Xinyu drove the Ferrari into the campus grounds.

“Comrade Xinyu, I’ve got some good news for you.” Huang Caixing had just finished the call with Yuan Yu and now beamed at Huang Xinyu. “But before I tell you, let me give you a little challenge. Guess what the good news is.”
