    Chapter Index

“That guy Night Owl has never messed with us, and whether he becomes Earth-ranked or not has nothing to do with us.” The sharp female voice carried a mocking tone. “Black Wolf, we all know you and Night Owl don’t get along and have had a few run-ins, but that’s between the two of you, don’t drag us into it.”

“Is that so? Then I suppose I was overthinking it.”

The hoarse-voiced man let out a low laugh, a shadow flitting across his eyes. He swirled the glass of red wine in his hand but said nothing more.

The others didn’t pay his reaction any mind. They continued to speak in hushed voices. On the surface, they appeared to be chatting casually, but in truth, they were exchanging information.

Just then, a tall, graceful figure walked into the lounge area, instantly drawing all eyes.

Judging by her figure, she was a young woman. Her long, dark-purple hair draped over her shoulders, and she wore a fox mask. Behind the mask, her eyes shimmered with a bewitching, soul-stealing light.

She wore a black leather jacket on top, tight black leather pants below, and high heels on her feet. Her long legs were toned and shapely, her figure sultry—like a blooming poppy flower, radiating a deadly allure in the dark.

Upon seeing the woman, everyone who had been lounging on the sofas immediately stood up, casting off their former laziness and offering a salute.

    “In respect, Lady Purple Fox.”

“Is everyone here?” the woman known as Purple Fox asked coldly, her voice devoid of warmth. “What’s the progress on the mission? Have you found the killer of our organization’s members?”

“Most people have arrived. Only Night Owl is still missing,” said a man standing beside her in a low voice. As he spoke, he kept his eyes on the ground. He didn’t dare to look at Purple Fox, as though she radiated a fearsome presence.

“We only encountered some ordinary people,” he continued. “They didn’t know anything about the organization, so we suspect Night Owl found the real target. That’s probably why he hasn’t shown up.”

“How much time is left before the appointed time?”

“Lady Purple Fox, there are still fifteen minutes left,” responded a cloaked figure.

“If Night Owl doesn’t return within fifteen minutes, it means his mission failed or worse, he met the same end as the other two.”

Purple Fox turned and walked out of the lounge, leaving behind a cold statement, “The leader sent me to Jinghai to resolve this trouble. I’ll handle the rest. You all continue carrying out the organization’s unfinished missions.”

With her final word spoken, Purple Fox’s figure vanished from sight.

She had come suddenly and left just as swiftly. Her tone and attitude were full of superiority, but no one dared express the slightest dissatisfaction.

Because those who did… without exception, all died miserably.

It was as if an invisible aura clung to Purple Fox, suppressing these lawless, ruthless killers. Only after her departure did the oppressive atmosphere in the lounge ease.

“Let’s go, let’s go. Since Lady Purple Fox has given her orders, there’s no point in staying here,” said a tall man wearing a tiger mask as he stepped toward the exit.

The others exchanged glances, then followed the man, preparing to leave the underground hideout.

However, just as they were about to reach the exit, the tall man in front suddenly halted.

“Night Owl? You actually came back?” he said in surprise.

    Everyone looked forward in unison.

Ahead of them stood a slim man in a black suit, wearing a silver mask. Even though his face was hidden, the cold, bone-deep aura he exuded could be felt.

“Is it so strange that I came back?” Night Owl stopped walking and replied coldly.

“Why are you so late? Lady Purple Fox just said you failed your mission. We all thought you were the one who got taken out,” said the tall man.

Night Owl’s tone remained cold. “Of course not. I’ve never failed a mission. Anyone I plan to kill, none of them escape.” His voice carried immense confidence and a faint arrogance. “Where is Lady Purple Fox? I want to report to her in person.”

Upon hearing his confident tone, several people in the crowd scoffed.

The man wearing the wolf mask, Black Wolf, muttered disdainfully, “He just got lucky and thinks he’s something special.”

“Lady Purple Fox is inside, but do you really think you’re qualified to meet her alone?” One man mocked, “Oh right, should we start calling you Lord Night Owl now? After all, completing this mission should make you a high-ranking member equal to Lady Purple Fox. Guess we all need to start bowing to Lord Night Owl.”

    Everyone burst into laughter.

“What’s that supposed to mean? You looking down on me?” Night Owl’s voice suddenly turned icy. The eyes behind his mask gleamed with a dangerous light. “Do you believe I won’t shoot you right now?”

The one who had spoken was a stocky man wearing a ridiculous clown mask.

He sneered, “Damn right I look down on you. Always acting like you’re above everyone. Who do you think you are? Shoot me? If you’ve got the guts, I’ll call you a real man.”

No sooner had the man finished speaking than Night Owl flipped his wrist, drawing a pistol with lightning speed. He raised it and fired without hesitation, right at the man’s head.

A flash of muzzle fire. A bullet pierced through the man’s forehead and burst out the back of his skull, leaving a gaping bloody hole.

Even in death, the man could not believe Night Owl had pulled the trigger. He remained standing for a second, eyes bulging from their sockets, letting out a grotesque gurgling sound.

Two seconds later, the light in his eyes vanished. His body toppled backward with a crash, eyes still wide open—truly dying with grievances unspoken.

    “…”

The sudden turn of events left everyone speechless.

No one had expected Night Owl to kill someone so abruptly, without warning, right here in the organization’s base, and in front of all their eyes.

This kind of action was beyond recklessness. It was sheer madness.

The atmosphere in the base froze the moment Night Owl pulled the trigger. Everyone stared at one another, the air growing eerie and tense.

“Night Owl, are you crazy?!” Black Wolf suddenly roared. “You dare kill one of your own inside the base? Just who gave you the nerve?!”
