Chapter 502: Huang Caixing’s Reasoning
by tinytreeAs the Director of the Logistics Department, even though Lin Xiao hadn’t been around the group much recently, the security personnel were naturally very familiar with him. They already held him in high regard, and now, having seen Lin Xiao display his overwhelming might, his prestige in their eyes had become virtually unmatched.
“Brother Lin, they were taken away by the young master from the Wan family. It’s only been about ten minutes or so,” Xiaofeng said with a face full of respect and admiration.
As a security guard, he didn’t dare to call Wan Shiyi by name. However, despite using ‘young master’, there was no trace of reverence in his tone.
A thoughtful light flashed in Lin Xiao’s eyes.
He had arrived suddenly and departed cleanly. As soon as he realized things were going south, he retreated without hesitation. Wan Shiyi might not be an easy opponent.
Thinking of the words Wan Shiyi left behind, Lin Xiao’s face turned cold. A faint and indifferent glint flickered deep in his pupils.
Although Lin Xiao appeared calm on the surface, as if he hadn’t taken Wan Shiyi’s threats to heart, with his cautious nature, how could he truly let down his guard?
Yuan Yong’s sacrifice had taught Lin Xiao a valuable lesson. Even a lion must use its full strength when hunting a rabbit. One must never take any potential enemy lightly.
It was always better to strike first and eliminate danger while it was still in the cradle.
Countless thoughts flashed through Lin Xiao’s mind, but in the end, he decided to wait and observe for now.
If Wan Shiyi turned out to be like Wan Shixuan, disregarding family rules and using force recklessly, Lin Xiao wouldn’t hesitate to show him what true annihilation looked like.
While Lin Xiao was deep in thought, the security guard remained slightly bowed, his hands hanging respectfully at his sides, standing quietly by like he was awaiting orders.
“I understand. Get back to work,” Lin Xiao snapped out of his thoughts and, noticing the guard still standing there, waved casually. “Go on.”
“Yes, Brother Lin!”
The guard clapped his heels together, stood tall with his chest out, and responded with vigor. His face was flushed with excitement, his voice loud and forceful, like a soldier being reviewed by his general.
Lin Xiao shook his head slightly and let the matter go. For the rest of the day, he didn’t have much to do, while Ning Xi and Wan Caixuan were busy handling the transfer of the Brilliant Pharmaceuticals’ shares and had no time to concern themselves with Lin Xiao.
Finally, as evening came and it was time to get off work, Lin Xiao left the Brilliant Tower and drove toward Maple Leaf Street.
Lin Xiao pulled out his key and unlocked the security door.
The next moment, a petite figure darted out from inside and leapt into his arms.
“Big Brother Lin, you’re back!”
The girl in his arms looked up, revealing a sweet, adorable face with two charming dimples on her cheeks.
“Mm.” Lin Xiao casually took off his coat, hung it on the wall rack, patted Huang Caixing’s smooth hair, and walked into the living room. “You two finished school early today?”
Huang Caixing clung to him like a koala, her little feet stepping on top of Lin Xiao’s. “We’ve got exams in a few days. The teacher let us go home early to prepare study materials. We still have evening study later.”
“Where’s Little Yu?”
“Big Brother Lin, I’m here.” Yuan Yu poked half her body out from the kitchen, an apron tied at her chest and a potato in her hand. “Little Cow insisted on coming with me. I couldn’t stop her.”
“Who’s Little Cow?!” Huang Caixing immediately protested. “If Big Brother weren’t here, even if you dragged me, I wouldn’t have come! Hmph!”
“But you did come, didn’t you?” Yuan Yu pouted. “I didn’t drag you.”
“Alright, enough from both of you. Why are you arguing the moment I get back?” Lin Xiao rubbed his temples, clearly getting a headache. “Caixing, go help Little Yu cook.”
“No!” Huang Caixing hugged his waist tightly. “I want to talk to you.”
“Little Cow, if you don’t help, there’ll be no dinner for you.” Yuan Yu waved the potato threateningly.
“Then no dinner. I’m dieting.” Huang Caixing didn’t care at all.
“I’ll help.” Lin Xiao rolled up his sleeves and walked toward the kitchen.
Yuan Yu’s eyes sparkled like clear autumn water and curved into crescent moons as she smiled. “Alright, thank you, Big Brother Lin.”
“There aren’t even that many dishes to cook. Why does Brother Lin need to help?” Huang Caixing muttered unhappily.
Seeing her still clinging to Lin Xiao like a pendant, Yuan Yu lost her patience. She gave Huang Caixing’s bottom a firm smack. “Little Cow, get down. How’s Big Brother Lin supposed to do anything with you hanging on him?”
“Ow!”
Huang Caixing cried out, but her arms remained tightly wrapped around Lin Xiao. “Princess Flat, you’re just jealous. I’m not letting go just to spite you.”
“Jealous, my foot.” Yuan Yu rolled her eyes and ignored her.
“If you’re not jealous, why are you nitpicking? Big Brother Lin didn’t say anything, but you’re going on and on.” Huang Caixing pouted. “Besides, I’m giving Big Brother warmth. He braves wind and waves out there, soaring through the storms. What we women should do is be his warm harbor when he comes home, a place for him to rest when he’s tired.”
Hearing this nonsense, Yuan Yu’s irritation evaporated. Her mouth twitched, but she swallowed the words she wanted to say and walked back into the kitchen expressionlessly.
Lin Xiao’s expression turned odd. He lowered his head and asked, “Caixing, did you come up with that just now?”
“I read it in a book.” Huang Caixing beamed. “Big Brother Lin, didn’t I sound amazing?”
“Not bad. But you’re still a girl, not a woman. Saying things like that doesn’t quite fit.”
“I’m a girl now, but I’ll be a woman someday.” She suddenly grew shy, rubbing her cheek against his chest and whispering like a mosquito, “I want to be Big Brother Lin’s woman…”
Flick.
Lin Xiao gently flicked her smooth forehead. “Little troublemaker. Don’t say things like that again. Now go help in the kitchen.”
“I’m not little!” Huang Caixing puffed out her chest. “What part of me is little? Princess Flat is the one who’s little.”
“Who are you calling little?!” Yuan Yu poked her head out of the kitchen again. “Hmph, I’m not little either!”
“You’re not bigger than me!”
“So what if you’re bigger? You can’t even run! Who came in dead last during the last sports day, huh?”
“You… you’re just jealous…!”
The time passed in a flurry of bickering between the two girls.
After dinner, Lin Xiao drove Yuan Yu and Huang Caixing back to school for evening classes. With college entrance exams just around the corner, the school had tightened discipline considerably.
As the city lit up and the night breeze drifted gently, a round moon rose overhead, casting a silver glow over the streets below, glittering with lights.
Lin Xiao narrowed his eyes at the bustling street scene. His heart was calm. Sitting in the car with eyes closed, he enjoyed this rare moment of peace.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
But not long after, the crisp sound of a phone ringing startled Lin Xiao awake.
