    Chapter Index

The others who had not yet reacted were momentarily confused.

Why did they determine that it was Wang Yun?

Although Zhao Youcheng and Hardy were also puzzled, they quickly followed along.

Wu Yaoming and Werner turned their flashlights to the highest brightness and moved to the edge of the cliff, immediately squatting down. They nearly pressed themselves against the ground as they meticulously examined the surface.

“Found it. Here,” Wu Yaoming suddenly shouted, his face lighting up with excitement as he pointed at the ground.

On the ground, there was a distinct mark left by a rope rubbing against the surface.

Since most of the mountain’s summit was covered in soil, any traces of friction would usually be erased by strong winds.

However, this particular mark was deep. Even though it was partially covered by dirt, a careful look revealed it clearly.

Werner quickly crouched down, touching the worn area.

“Based on the mark and its color, it’s obvious that it was just made. It seems our guess was right,” he said, visibly shaken.

Zhao Youcheng and the others hurried over.

“Did you find any clues?” Zhao Youcheng asked.

Wu Yaoming and Werner stood up, nodded, and pointed their flashlights toward the peak of the mountain across the way, their expressions tinged with regret.

“Old Zhao, do you remember how Wang Yun was rescued when I took the helicopter to save him?” Wu Yaoming asked.

    Zhao Youcheng nodded.

“He used a rope to tie himself to a stone. We all saw it… Are you saying?”

Suddenly, Zhao Youcheng understood. If Wang Yun could use a rope to latch onto a helicopter mid-air, then similarly he could have tied a rope to a rock and hooked it onto the opposite peak. Then he could have used it to cross the cliff.

Wu Yaoming saw Zhao Youcheng’s realization and shook his head helplessly.

“Yes, exactly as you’re thinking. This guy is truly fearless. And incredible. He got ahead of us, scaled the mountain, and used the rope to reach the other side,” he said.

“No way! He got across with just a single rope?” Hardy exclaimed in disbelief.

“And this cliff is at least ten meters across! With the wind so strong, how did he even manage to throw the rope?” Alfa said. He was just as shocked.

This was beyond what a normal human could accomplish.

Werner let out a slight sigh. They had been a step too late.

    “Because he is Wang Yun.”

Zhao Youcheng’s low voice echoed among the group.

When the others heard this, they froze. Then, as if on cue, goosebumps rose on their arms as a chill ran down their spines.

    Because he was Wang Yun.

Only he could accomplish such an impossible feat!

Zhao Youcheng took a deep breath, steeling himself as he addressed the group.

“They’ve already reached the opposite mountain. Let’s move. We need to catch up as quickly as possible, or we may completely lose track of them,” he said.

    “Wait, Captain Zhao.”

Wu Yaoming stepped forward, stopping Zhao Youcheng.

“Captain, you haven’t rested in a long time.”

“I’m fine, I can keep going,” Zhao Youcheng quickly replied, thinking Wu Yaoming was expressing concern for him.

Wu Yaoming gave a wry smile, and this time, Hadi stepped in with an understanding nod.

“Captain Zhao, we can’t keep going,” Hardy said.

His words made Zhao Youcheng suddenly realize none of them had rested in a long time.

Looking around, he saw the exhaustion written all over his teammates’ faces. Some were even stifling yawns, their bodies showing clear signs of wear. They were all utterly drained.

Zhao Youcheng felt a pang of guilt. He had been so consumed with catching Wang Yun that he had neglected the well-being of his team.

“Alright, we’ll rest here for the night. I’ll also arrange for others to head to the opposite mountain. We’ll switch shifts when the time comes.”

Even so, Zhao Youcheng was still uneasy. He feared that Wang Yun might truly escape.

“Captain Zhao, just get some proper rest. Don’t worry about it. I’ve already set up a tracking system. If three people appear on the road at the same time, my phone will automatically trigger an alert,” Qian Guosen said and smiled reassuringly.

    Zhao Youcheng smacked his forehead.

“Oh, right! I almost forgot we had a tech genius like you. Alright then, let’s get some sleep. We regroup in seven hours.”

After Zhao Youcheng gave the order, everyone took out their portable tents from their backpacks and began setting them up.

They were all on the verge of collapse. Their minds and bodies had reached their limits.

Meanwhile, Alfa and a few others took this opportunity to descend the mountain. Having rested earlier, they didn’t need sleep just yet. Instead, they were heading to the parking area to retrieve food.

They would wait at the base of the mountain so that when the others woke up, they could eat immediately and replenish their strength.

For now, the group settled in for much-needed rest.

At the same time, on the opposite mountain, Wang Yun and his team were also feeling the pangs of hunger.

Wang Yun had been carefully monitoring the actions of his pursuers. When he saw them setting up camp on the mountaintop, he knew he had a brief respite.

He instructed Xiao Gang and Brother Hu to continue resting while he set out to find food.

The food they had brought earlier had long been consumed. Since being rescued from the smoky forest, they had gone more than thirty hours with barely any sustenance.

When hunger struck, they had only rainwater to keep them going.
