Chapter 405: Even If You Tear the Sky Open, I Won’t Be Afraid!
by tinytreeDirector Zhou’s words instantly put his wife at ease, brushing away her earlier embarrassment.
“I was thinking too small. Come in, come in, Teacher Wang, please have a seat!”
She quickly stepped aside and welcomed him in.
The dining table was already filled with steaming, fragrant dishes. Seafood, stir-fries, a wide array of side dishes, and a few fine bottles of wine right at the center.
This spread rivaled a New Year’s feast.
“You really didn’t need to prepare so much. I’m flattered.”
Wang Yun smiled awkwardly as he looked over the table.
Since arriving in this world, it was his first time being invited to a proper home-cooked family dinner. And this level of hospitality exceeded all his expectations.
A surge of emotion welled up in his heart.
There was a time he’d dreamed of something like this, too.
Director Zhou eagerly pulled him to the table. His wife followed, holding the hand of their child.
The son’s nickname was Piggy. He was in third grade and a slightly mischievous but adorable kid. Delicate features and big, bright eyes that sparkled with curiosity.
“Dad, is that really Big Brother Wang Yun?”
The child’s voice was soft and innocent, and his round eyes were practically glued to Wang Yun.
“That’s me. I’m Big Brother Wang Yun,” Wang Yun said playfully.
Director Zhou’s wife quickly tugged at their son, correcting him in a low voice.
“Call him Uncle Wang Yun.”
“No! He’s not an uncle, he’s a big brother. He’s so young, not old like you two.”
Pfft!
Wang Yun couldn’t hold back a laugh. Everyone at the table burst into laughter as well.
“Haha, kids say the darndest things,” Director Zhou chuckled.
Wang Yun shook his head and grinned. “Piggy’s right. I am young. Just call me Big Brother. From now on, you’re officially my little brother.”
“Really?!”
Before Wang Yun even finished speaking, Piggy jumped off his chair with a drink in hand, full of excitement.
“A man’s word is his bond.”
He raised his glass with both hands, mimicking how adults made toasts.
Wang Yun was completely entertained by this.
This kid was like a little grown-up. Children these days really were mature beyond their years, but it was also incredibly cute.
And so, the four of them began to eat.
Naturally, Director Zhou and Wang Yun ended up drinking… a lot. Over ten bottles between them. Fueled by alcohol and laughter, the two of them swore brotherhood on the spot.
Director Zhou became Wang Yun’s “elder brother.”
Wang Yun, his “younger brother.”
And little Piggy? He became Wang Yun’s little brother.
The generations might’ve been a mess, but no one cared. They were all overjoyed.
“Next season, we’re doing a full format upgrade. The rules will be different, but we haven’t finalized the changes yet. Anyway, Wang bro, no matter what happens, you have to stay on this show. Without you, I’m done for!”
Director Zhou was flushed from the drink, his eyelids heavy, his words slightly slurred. But even half-drunk, he couldn’t hide the one thing that weighed on his heart the most.
Wang Yun might’ve looked tipsy, but his mind was clear.
He was someone who never forgot a kindness. To him, he and Director Zhou had elevated each other.
“Don’t worry. I’ll stay for next season. And I’ll be changing things up, too.”
“What kind of change?” Director Zhou perked up instantly, eyes wide. “Give your brother a heads-up so I can be prepared.”
Seeing how anxious he looked, Wang Yun quickly waved his hand.
“Relax, it’s nothing bad. I just won’t be holding back like I did this season. Next time, I’m flipping the script. I’ll make the show’s inspectors run for their lives. I want them to experience the kind of hell I went through.”
Bang!
The moment Wang Yun finished, Director Zhou slammed his palm on the table.
Everyone jumped.
Wang Yun stared, momentarily confused. Zhou’s wife shot him a glare.
“Have you lost your mind? What was that for?” She stood up immediately, worried, and then turned to Wang Yun.
She assumed her husband was angry.
“Don’t take it the wrong way, Wang Yun. He’s drunk, I apologize on his behalf. Zhou! You’ve scared the guest!”
She truly lived up to the title of a top-tier wife—quick to read the room, swift to act. Sensing the mood shift, she stepped in immediately to defuse it.
Wang Yun raised an eyebrow. He didn’t think Director Zhou was actually angry.
“Haha, it’s fine. Brother Zhou, what were you trying to say?” he asked calmly.
And in the next moment, Director Zhou’s reply made his wife exhale a long, relieved sigh.
“Good, good! I was just worried you wouldn’t stir things up. That’s perfect. No matter what chaos you create, as long as you stay on this show—hell, even if you tear the sky open—I’ll have your back!”
“Hah! And here I thought you were mad. Don’t worry, next season, I’ll turn everything upside down!”
The two of them raised their glasses with a clink.
Each downed a full two ounces of baijiu in one go.
“You two should slow down,” Zhou’s wife warned, watching them with concern. “There’s plenty of time ahead.”
Still, she couldn’t hide the joy in her eyes.
As long as Wang Yun agreed to continue with the show the next three years—no, the next ten—her family’s future would be secure.
“Cough! Cough! Cough! Mom—!”
Just then, as Zhou’s wife beamed at the two of them, a small voice piped up from the side.
