Chapter 413: I Just Picked Out Some Gifts for You
by tinytree“N-no… anything’s fine to eat.”
Xiao Yanran’s face flushed deeper after she spoke, but then, as if suddenly remembering something, she hurriedly added, “You’ve been eating irregularly for a while now, skipping meals and all. We shouldn’t eat anything too greasy or spicy. Let’s have something light. I’m worried about your stomach…”
Her voice trailed off as she lowered her head, looking shy and delicate like a dainty maiden.
Watching her like this, Wang Yun felt his heart stir.
Back then, she’d joined the show just to help him. And now, even after the show had ended, she was still thinking of him.
A woman like this… in today’s world, she was truly rare.
“Yanran, don’t you love Japanese food the most? It’s light too! Handsome guy, why don’t we go for Japanese cuisine tonight? Yanran’s favorite is sashimi. But it’s too expensive, we only managed to eat it three times during all four years of college.”
Just as Wang Yun was basking in this warm, gentle sweetness, Zhu Xiaoxiao’s voice piped up from the back seat.
Since Wang Yun drove a million-yuan luxury car, he clearly wasn’t lacking money.
If he wanted to pursue Yanran, he had to show it with real action.
“No, no! Xiaoxiao, stop—!”
Yanran hurriedly tried to stop her. Japanese food wasn’t cheap at all. She couldn’t let Wang Yun spend that much on her.
But Wang Yun simply smiled.
“Alright. Japanese food it is. I don’t know the best spots around here, I’ll ask someone.”
Without hesitation, he pulled out his phone and messaged Director Zhou’s wife.
Moments later, she replied with a location and even called ahead to reserve a table.
The entire process took less than three minutes.
“All set.”
Wang Yun glanced at the address and turned on the navigation.
Yanran’s face turned even redder from embarrassment.
Meanwhile, Zhu Xiaoxiao looked completely satisfied.
“Oh right, Yanran,” she asked playfully from the back, “What should I call your cousin here? I heard you calling him Brother Wang just now?”
Zhu Xiaoxiao’s lively nature was showing again.
Facing a guy of Wang Yun’s caliber, she knew being too shy or starry-eyed would only make her seem immature. If she wanted him to respect her, she had to meet him as an equal—calm and confident.
Or so she’d read online.
“Oh… his name’s Wang Yun,” Yanran introduced shyly.
“Wang Yun?” Zhu Xiaoxiao blinked. “That’s funny… there’s so many people named Wang Yun lately.”
For a moment, she froze. Wasn’t that the same name as the internet’s most famous sensation right now?
“Wait… isn’t that the name of your idol? Don’t tell me you agreed to meet him just because he shares the same name?”
Zhu Xiaoxiao teased with a grin.
The moment she said it, Xiao Yanran’s face turned an even brighter shade of red.
And Wang Yun’s heart? It soared.
He turned his head slightly, his gaze soft with delight as he looked at her glowing face.
This girl… from the moment she got in the car, her cheeks hadn’t stopped blushing.
“So our Yanran’s idol is that Wang Yun, huh?” Wang Yun teased lightly. “He’s just a little clever. What exactly do you like about him?”
Seeing her squirm, shy yet unable to refute, made him inexplicably happy.
“S-stop it! If you keep teasing me… I-I’m gonna eat you poor tonight!” Yanran blurted out, flustered beyond belief.
But the moment the words left her mouth, she froze.
Eat him poor?!
Why would she say that?! Now Brother Wang would definitely think she was a glutton!
As she panicked internally, Wang Yun let out a hearty laugh.
“Alright. If you can’t eat me poor tonight, then from today on, I’ll cover all your meals until the day you finally do eat me poor.”
Until the day you eat me poor.
Yanran’s head snapped up at those words.
And behind her, Zhu Xiaoxiao pressed both hands over her mouth, looking as if she’d taken a critical hit.
‘This dog food… was served too well-timed. I haven’t even eaten dinner, and I’m already full.’
And so, surrounded by this warm, sweet atmosphere, Wang Yun finally pulled up to their destination.
It was inside a private clubhouse.
As their car drove in, four uniformed security guards approached immediately to guide them to the entrance.
At the restaurant’s door, more security came over to open the car doors for them.
The entire experience made Yanran and Zhu Xiaoxiao realize this was no ordinary place. It was far more upscale than anywhere Team Leader Qing had ever taken them.
“May I ask your surname, sir?”
A man in a suit stepped out from the doorway, looking every bit the dignified butler. It wasn’t even like a restaurant—it resembled a private mansion.
“Wang,” Wang Yun answered calmly.
“Very good, Mr. Wang. Your table is upstairs.” The butler smiled warmly.
The whole scene left Yanran completely stunned.
This felt like walking into an old-world palace. Security guards. A butler. A prince. And even a white steed.
“One moment.”
Wang Yun turned to the butler, then looked at Yanran.
“Before we head in, I want to give you something. I asked Sister-in-law to help pick out some gifts for you earlier. I wasn’t sure what you’d like, so I just got a few random things. See if there’s anything you like.”
With that, Wang Yun headed for the trunk.
Director Zhou’s wife had told him before, “When you meet a girl for the first time, you should always present your gift right away. That’s basic respect.”
But back at her company gate, there were too many people watching. He didn’t want to embarrass her then.
Now, though, this moment felt just right.
