Chapter 476: Then Let’s Check the Balance Right Now!
by tinytreeWhen Wang Yun showed his transfer confirmation, Xiao Long immediately called it fake, a doctored screenshot.
That was the funniest part, apparently. The crowd burst into laughter. Especially Xiao Long and his crew. Their guffaws rang loud and long.
Some of the onlookers, mostly older uncles and aunties, looked confused. Those who knew a bit about smartphones understood what Photoshopped meant. Others just blinked wide-eyed, shaking their heads in puzzlement.
“What’s that mean—Photoshopped?” one uncle asked.
“It means fake,” another answered loudly. “Just put a fake screenshot up. My daughter explained it to me.”
Two aunties chimed in with booming voices, making sure everyone heard.
“Photoshopped your mother!”
Amid the noisy chatter, a thunderous voice suddenly cut through the din. Old Hu exploded with fury, and the crowd instantly fell silent. He was done holding back.
“You think I’ve been giving you face, huh? Mock me all you want, I can live with that. I’m richer than you, that’s a fact. But now you’re accusing my boss of faking transfer records? Do you even know who my boss is? You think he needs to lie to a bunch of nobodies like you?!”
Old Hu stormed forward, ready to start cursing them out on the spot.
The crowd stirred again, a wave of murmurs rising as tension crackled.
Xiao Long and his friends suddenly looked a little sheepish, but they weren’t about to back down in front of everyone. There were four of them, after all. They still felt confident they could handle a little scuffle.
“What, can’t take a joke? Gotta start swearing now?” Xiao Long took a step forward, his expression turning aggressive.
He glared at Old Hu from head to toe, practically daring him to make a move.
But Old Hu had never been fond of anyone from Mao Village. He rolled up his sleeves and was just about to charge forward—
Until Wang Yun stopped him with an outstretched arm.
“Old Hu.” Wang Yun held him back. “It’s Xiao Gang’s wedding. Not worth it. Don’t ruin a brother’s big day for a bunch of clowns.”
He said it with a smile.
“The hell did you just call a clown?!”
One of Xiao Long’s friends jabbed a finger at Wang Yun, shouting.
“I said you. Bumpkin.”
Old Hu wasn’t about to take that lying down. He pointed right back and bellowed, “Say that again, I dare you!”
“Enough!” Wang Yun snapped.
The voices from both sides were rising around him. He raised his hand, cutting them off.
But the shouting didn’t stop. Just as it looked like the fight might erupt again, the old bookkeeper stepped forward, about to say something to calm things down.
Wang Yun didn’t give him a chance.
He stepped forward first, eyes calmly sweeping over to the man holding a little over ten thousand yuan in payment for goods.
“You said I Photoshopped it, right? Fine. Let’s check the balance right here, right now.” He turned to the man. “Didn’t you say you collected payment today? You do business, right? You carry a POS machine, don’t you?”
Wang Yun’s tone was patient, but his eyes were smiling faintly.
Truth be told, he really didn’t enjoy these kinds of showing-off stunts. But what could he do? They were practically begging for him to show off.
The man Wang Yun called out still looked pissed at first. But the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. He nodded vigorously.
“Damn right I do! I actually brought it today! Alright, Xiao Long, wait for me. I’ll go grab the machine. Let’s see who’s bluffing and who’s for real! Time for you to learn what it means to hoist a rock only to drop it on your own damn foot!”
The man was fired up now.
He stood on tiptoe with one foot, rubbed his belly with one hand, and bounced on the spot with the other leg. His free hand couldn’t help creeping up to his chest, as if he couldn’t wait to flash his faint chicken tattoo again.
“Hahaha! That’s it, bro! Go get it!” Xiao Long bellowed with a flourish of his arms. “Let everyone see what a real baller looks like, so rich he flies!”
The aunties and uncles behind them were getting hyped too, swept up in the drama.
They chimed in with their own reactions, though some of their words sounded like thinly veiled sarcasm:
“Aiya, no need for this kind of fuss on a wedding day!”
“Exactly! Why even bother getting the machine out?”
“These days, don’t we all check our balances online anyway?”
By now, the courtyard was jam-packed with curious onlookers.
Word had spread throughout the village: someone had gifted Xiao Gang two million yuan for his wedding.
Everyone was dying to find out who this rich young man was.
Rumor had it he was handsome, too, which, of course, brought out even more aunties, all hoping to get a look.
After all, what mother wouldn’t want their daughter to catch the eye of a rich and good-looking young man?
Upstairs, Xiao Yanran was still getting her makeup done. She’d slept in that morning, after all, Wang Yun hadn’t let her off easy last night.
As she was listening to music, she sensed something was off. Things downstairs were getting way too noisy.
She could vaguely make out Wang Yun’s voice amid the commotion.
Curious, she peeked out the window—only to see Old Hu shouting, someone else yelling back, and Wang Yun standing in the middle trying to defuse the situation.
Alarmed, she rushed downstairs.
“Alright, everyone! Stay right there! All you uncles and aunties, keep watching! I’m going to get the machine right now! If this guy really gifted two million yuan, I, Zhuzi, will be the first to call him brother. And I’ll give him every cent I’ve made from the past few days’ sales.”
Zhuzi was high on adrenaline now.
He just didn’t believe it. Who the hell gives two million as a wedding gift?
If someone had that kind of money, they wouldn’t be hanging out with a guy like Xiao Gang.
And he’d read online that even those mega-rich celebrities in showbiz rarely give more than a hundred thousand.
Who hands over two million just like that?
At least make your lies more believable.
Zhuzi’s outburst whipped the crowd into another frenzy.
“Haha! If Zhuzi gives up all his money, I’ll pitch in too!” Xiao Long shouted too. “I’ll add another twenty thousand in gift money, hell, I’ll call my wife and tell her to bring it over now.”
“Hey! What, you think you’re the only one who’s got brothers? I’ll put in twenty thousand too!”
“Come on, I’m not even married yet. Who doesn’t have twenty grand these days?!”
