Chapter 522: So It’s You, Ying Yuezi! How About We Form an Alliance?
by tinytreeWang Yun walked straight ahead, turning into a narrow alley up ahead.
With a quick sidestep, he vanished into the shadows. Like a scene from a movie, he slipped into the alley and pressed his back to the wall just past the entrance, slowing his breathing and silencing his footsteps.
He held his breath.
Two full minutes passed, and still, no one appeared.
Did they leave?
Just as suspicion began to creep in, he heard the softest sound. It was barely audible footsteps approaching.
Whoever it was, they were extremely cautious.
The figure paused at the mouth of the alley, not stepping in immediately, but instead peering inside for a while. Only after several more seconds did she begin to creep in, careful and deliberate.
“So it’s Captain Ying. Long time no see.”
The moment Wang Yun caught a clear glimpse of her figure, he spoke up.
Ying Yuezi froze, back turned, and slowly turned around. She removed her mask, hat, and pulled back the hood of her coat. She was fully geared for concealment. Now unmasked, her eyes still held a glint of surprise.
“How did you know it was me? And when did you notice I was following you?”
Bathed in moonlight, her upturned nose cast a soft shadow over her face.
Wang Yun leaned lazily against the wall, arms crossed, gazing at her. He hadn’t expected to run into her here. What surprised him more was that she was in the same position he was.
“We’ve fought over ten times. If I still couldn’t recognize your silhouette, I wouldn’t be worthy of being your opponent.”
He didn’t answer her questions directly.
Ying Yuezi shrugged and raised her wrist, revealing the fugitive mark.
“This time, I’m like you, a fugitive.”
“So?”
‘Then why were you following me?’
Wang Yun looked at her with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
Ying Yuezi’s smile faltered under that gaze.
“Couldn’t sleep,” she said casually. “Figured I’d take a walk, enjoy the city’s night scenery. Didn’t expect to bump into an old friend.”
That was clearly a lie, but Wang Yun didn’t call her out.
Bumping into an old friend, huh?
Then why had he felt such overwhelming killing intent? So strong that it triggered his Primary Danger Sense?
‘Women… The prettier they are, the less you can trust them.’
Wang Yun chuckled to himself.
“Well, now that we’ve seen each other, let’s leave it at that. I’m heading north. You?”
He nodded toward the north, clearly signaling for her to leave.
Whatever Ying Yuezi had been planning to say was instantly cut off. Her reply caught in her throat, and she had to force it back down.
“Wait.”
She couldn’t hold it in any longer. She’d been looking for this guy for a long time. Now that she’d finally tracked him down and he hadn’t chased her off, she couldn’t just let him go. Who knew when the next chance would come?
“Hmm? What is it?”
Wang Yun looked back at her with calm amusement.
Everything was under his control; he had Ying Yuezi completely in the palm of his hand.
She knew it too.
He had the advantage. She had none.
“I won’t beat around the bush. We’ve crossed paths plenty of times. Now that we’re technically on the same side, let’s form an alliance!”
Ying Yuezi finally laid it out.
“Don’t be so quick to reject me,” she added quickly. “I know you’ve picked up five more people recently. Other than Xiao Gang and Old Hu, the rest are basically dead weight. They’ll only slow you down. Which means you need a capable partner more than ever. You know my abilities. Whether it’s intelligence or physical strength, I can be your right hand. You and I, we can go all the way to the end. Together. What do you say?”
She spoke fast, clearly anxious.
She sounded like she was pitching a product, desperately trying to sell herself by highlighting every advantage she had. But the more eager she was, the more clearly Wang Yun saw the truth.
He finally understood why her killing intent had been so strong earlier.
“So, you want an alliance? Seems like you know quite a bit about me. But even if you do know a lot, I’ve never had the desire to team up with anyone. And as you said, you’re not as strong as me, so tell me, why would I want to team up with someone weaker?”
He threw the question back at her.
“You—!”
Ying Yuezi bristled.
Why was this guy so infuriating?
Sure, he was good-looking, but did his mouth have to be so damn sharp?
Here she was—a stunning beauty, elite in both looks and skill—and he had the nerve to dismiss her like that?
Couldn’t he just shut up and be nice for once?!
Wang Yun saw her flustered face and chuckled.
“Captain Ying, if you want to form an alliance, you’ll have to offer something real. You can’t expect me to say yes just because you’re good at talking.”
His tone was layered with meaning.
Ying Yuezi met his jet-black gaze and instinctively stepped back. Then, wrapping her arms around her chest, she gave him a full-body once-over, her eyes wary and defensive.
Now it was Wang Yun’s turn to be speechless.
“I’m not interested in your face or your body. I’m a decent man. And besides, my Yanran is just as pretty as you,” he muttered haughtily.
That one sentence made Ying Yuezi’s face turn beet red. Even under the pale moonlight, it was obvious her expression shifted from bashful to embarrassed, then straight to furious.
“You shameless rogue!”
