Chapter 524: Goddess? Just Another Pack Mule!
by tinytreeWang Yun gave a slight nod but didn’t comment.
Seeing him stay silent, Ying Yuezi continued answering the question he’d asked earlier.
“I don’t have much money left. Before I left, I gave everything I had to that elderly woman. I only kept ten yuan for food,” she said with sincerity.
“You’re kidding, right? And what, did you think you were guaranteed to find me? Where does that confidence even come from?” Wang Yun sighed helplessly.
So basically, she came to latch onto him, with just ten yuan to her name. She was another hungry mouth to feed.
‘What on earth is going through her head?’
Ying Yuezi ignored his sarcasm, her lips lifting in a confident smile.
“If I couldn’t find you, I’d have found someone else. Any fugitive besides you would’ve jumped at the chance to ally with me, except maybe the women.”
She came to a stop, arms crossed, eyes shining with pride.
They always said confident women were the most beautiful, and for the first time, Wang Yun caught a glimpse of what made Ying Yuezi attractive.
“Fine. Use your last ten yuan to buy me breakfast,” Wang Yun said as he strolled into a breakfast shop and sat down without ceremony. He ordered two sandwiches, a burger, and a bottle of cola. Ten yuan exactly.
“Go on. Pay up.”
He waved at Ying Yuezi, who obediently stepped forward. The female staff member behind the counter cast a disapproving glance his way. A man making a woman pay?
But what surprised her most was that this woman didn’t hesitate at all. She really did pay for it. As she turned away with the money, the server rolled her eyes. It was unbelievable.
Back in the livestream, the audience was in stitches.
“I’m crying! Big Brother actually had her spend her last ten yuan on his breakfast!”
“Legend. He didn’t even leave her a dime. This is what shutting down a retreat looks like!”
“Let’s be honest, Ying Yuezi made a great deal. Ten yuan to secure a rich goldmine of a partner? Big Brother still has over ten thousand in cash!”
“Exactly! If she were alone, she’d be eating dry toast. But with Big Brother, it’s a king’s feast!”
“Honestly, the girl’s got brains. She knew exactly what she was doing!”
Some envied Ying Yuezi. Others admired Wang Yun’s unwavering attitude. To him, beauty didn’t matter. What mattered was victory and brotherhood.
Now that’s a real boss, not some love-drunk simp.
Throughout the entire meal, Ying Yuezi just watched him eat. Not until Wang Yun finished did her stomach give a loud, involuntary growl.
“Oh, my bad, my bad! I forgot you haven’t eaten yet. I’m buying breakfast for the others anyway. One sandwich good enough for you? Can’t have you eating too much, you’ll get fat, and that’d ruin your figure,” said Wang Yun without a shred of irony as he waved at the counter to place his order.
Ying Yuezi was so stunned, she didn’t even know what to say.
The livestream exploded again with waves of 666 spam.
Facing a woman with goddess-like looks, Wang Yun couldn’t be bothered in the slightest.
After buying eight portions of breakfast, the job of carrying them, of course, fell on Ying Yuezi the pack mule.
So on that early morning street, there appeared an amusing sight.
A strikingly handsome, aloof man walked casually beside a tall, elegant woman whose expression screamed regret and suffering. Her arms were piled high with plastic bags. Her steps were shaky, shoulders sagging under the weight.
And the man beside her was calm, composed, surveying the surroundings like a tourist.
“You guys are staying here?”
They had walked for who knows how long. By the time Ying Yuezi’s arms were going numb, Wang Yun stopped in front of a small inn.
She stared in disbelief.
They were less than three kilometers from the city center.
They’re hiding in plain sight in such a busy part of town? How had the program inspectors not found them yet?
And from the looks of it, they’d been living here for days.
Wang Yun simply nodded and walked in without explanation.
Only when Ying Yuezi entered did she realize why the place had stayed hidden.
The first floor of the inn was disguised as a laundromat. Behind it, hidden from view, was a staircase. Only by going up that staircase would you discover the row of guest rooms on the second floor.
Even if program inspectors had searched the building, they’d see a basic laundromat, find nothing suspicious, and move on.
Who would bother to open a back door and climb a set of stairs?
A textbook case of hiding in plain sight. This hotel really knew how to play the game.
Wang Yun had rented out the entire second floor. The rooms were small, custom-renovated by the owner. So when Wang Yun handed him two thousand yuan, the guy gave him the master keys without hesitation.
As long as Wang Yun didn’t burn the place down, the rest didn’t matter. Hygiene didn’t matter.
“They’re all asleep. You can use this room.”
Wang Yun opened the one at the far end of the hallway.
Inside was a moldy single bed and the musty scent of rot.
Originally, this had been the owner’s nap room, but Wang Yun had paid enough to send the man home permanently.
With enough money, everything became easy.
