    Chapter Index

When everyone woke up and saw Ying Yuezi among them, no one was more stunned than Xiao Gang and Old Hu. They stood frozen, sandwiches in hand. Eating felt wrong, not eating felt even worse. Their faces were filled with wariness and a touch of hostility.

“Don’t stare. She’s one of us now,” Wang Yun said casually, picking up a sandwich and taking a bite with elegant nonchalance.

Even though he was chewing with gusto, the way he moved still looked effortlessly refined.

Ying Yuezi stared at him, her face full of helpless disbelief.

‘Didn’t he already eat once? These sandwiches were bought according to headcount. Don’t tell me there’s none left for me again?’

With that in mind, she ignored the glares from Xiao Gang and Old Hu and stuffed the sandwich into her mouth in big bites.

“She’s a fugitive too? Then why doesn’t she play her own game? Isn’t she supposed to be powerful?” Old Hu muttered, clearly uneasy.

Wang Yun shrugged. “She said she wanted to form an alliance. Whatever. If she becomes a burden, we’ll just leave her.”

The moment he said that, the people who had been silently eating all looked up. Each face was marked with surprise, even Thirteen shot them a cold glance.

Xiao Gang shifted awkwardly, glancing away. Boss… she’s right here, you know…

But Ying Yuezi didn’t react much. Better to lay things out openly than to bottle them up.

“Aren’t you going to assign tasks?” she asked after finishing her sandwich. She tilted her head at Wang Yun, visibly more refreshed after two or three hours of sleep.

Despite the poor accommodations, something about this place gave her an unexpected sense of peace. In fact, those few hours of sleep had been more restful than two full days elsewhere.

“No big plans,” Wang Yun said. “Thirteen, go scout the area with Old Zhou. Memorize the terrain. Old Zhou, keep an eye on Thirteen. Xiao Gao, you and Big Mouth go check out the nearest car rental shops. Find out what paperwork they need. Xiang Xiang, head over to the restaurant and lend the owner a hand for two days. I’ll teach you what to do after.”

Wang Yun rattled off instructions with practiced ease.

“What about us, Boss?” Old Hu asked.

“You and Xiao Gang, along with Ying Yuezi, go catch fish at the beach. Same method as last time. After that, either sell them at the Sero Market or sell directly to the restaurant owner. Either works.”

Wang Yun popped the last bite of sandwich into his mouth and clapped the crumbs from his hands in satisfaction.

    “Wait, what? Fishing?”

Ying Yuezi finally reacted. Fishing in this weather? Was he trying to freeze them to death?

What the hell is he thinking? Instead of planning an escape, he’s sending people to the beach to catch fish?

“What else do you expect?” Wang Yun gave her a sidelong glance. “You think two hundred yuan is enough to feed this many people? You can’t even feed yourself with that.”

“Do you even know how much money we make from one seafood trip?” Xiao Gang grinned and looked at her teasingly.

“How much?” Ying Yuezi asked, clearly irritated. He’d assigned everyone their roles but hadn’t said a word about what he was going to do.

    “Eighteen grand.”

    “Eigh—what!? Eighteen thousand!?”

Ying Yuezi jolted like she’d just been shocked, eyes wide in disbelief.

She’d figured some fugitives might find ways to make money, but she hadn’t expected Wang Yun’s team to be raking in that much.

“Of course! You didn’t notice how many of us there are?” Old Hu puffed up proudly, lifting his chin with smug satisfaction.

Wang Yun just chuckled, saying nothing.

Ying Yuezi was speechless. The last time she felt this baffled was—well, the last time she dealt with Wang Yun.

The production team had saddled him with all these people, yet somehow they’d all turned into his labor force, helping him turn a profit. And he’d even managed to organize it all with style.

“That’s settled then. You three head to the beach but keep a low profile. Xiao Gao, Big Mouth, you two are in the most danger. There’s a good chance inspectors will be watching the car rentals, so you need to be flawless. Don’t let them suspect a thing. Here’s one thousand yuan. Buy some big backpacks and skateboard gear, dress like snowboarders and go rent a car. Pick the sketchiest, most rundown shop you can find.”

Wang Yun turned to them with a serious look.

“Why go for sketchy places?” Xiao Gang asked, puzzled.

Old Hu rolled his eyes. Finally, a chance to show off his intellect.

“The shadier the rental shop, the simpler the process. They just want your money; they won’t ask for ID or anything. Even if you don’t return the car, they probably won’t care.”

He lit a cigarette as he spoke, exhaling slowly.

Ying Yuezi frowned at the smoke but didn’t say anything.

“I get it now,” Xiao Gao grinned. “Don’t worry, Boss. I’ll make sure they think Big Mouth and I are just two rich idiots.”

    Everyone burst into laughter.

In that moment, Ying Yuezi felt like they weren’t fugitives on the run, but a bunch of friends enjoying a bizarre vacation together.

At the center of it all sat Wang Yun—calm, commanding, completely in his element. He was like a loach that could thrive in mud, yet at the same time, he was a dragon waiting to soar, watching the world from the sky.
