Chapter 441: For the First Time in Thirty Years!
by tinytreeListening to Brother Hu and Xiao Gang gossiping in the courtyard, Wang Yun suddenly felt that life wasn’t so bad after all, especially after helping his brother settle a lifelong matter. His heart was content.
“Huh?”
He reached into his pocket, originally intending to fish out a cigarette. Instead, his fingers brushed against a card.
It was the business card that man had given him yesterday.
Wang Yun had drunk too much last night and completely forgotten about it.
“This business card has some serious weight to it.”
He examined the gold-plated card in his hand. With his years of experience, he could tell it was real gold.
In this day and age, anyone who used actual gold for a business card had to be either filthy rich or someone with real power.
“I’ll deal with it later.”
After pondering for a moment, Wang Yun tucked the card back into his pocket.
He wasn’t in the mood to make that call just yet. Something told him that once he did, life would get a whole lot more complicated.
Shaking the thought away, he stepped outside.
Brother Hu and Xiao Gang immediately lit up with excitement when they saw him come out.
They were just about to speak when Wang Yun raised a hand.
“I heard what you two were saying. When Xiao Gang gets married, I’ll definitely come to the wedding, but I’ve got things to take care of, so I’m heading out today.”
He took the initiative to explain.
Xiao Yanran had been messaging him nonstop last night.
He’d been away for several days now, and he hadn’t had much of a chance to spend proper time with her.
And the longer they were apart, the more he missed her.
Especially those soft, pale little hands of hers—he hadn’t even held them properly yet.
As soon as Brother Hu and Xiao Gang heard that their boss was leaving, their smiles instantly faded.
“So soon, Boss?” Xiao Gang asked, reluctant to see him go.
Wang Yun nodded. “You can’t be the only one flaunting your relationship. I’ve got to go keep your sister-in-law company too.”
“Sister-in-law?”
Both men were stunned.
Seeing their dumbfounded faces, Wang Yun chuckled sheepishly.
“Yep. Once everything’s settled on your end, come find me in Magic City. I’ll introduce you to her properly. And show you around a bit.”
The two of them nodded so hard their heads nearly fell off, grinning from ear to ear.
After lunch, Wang Yun hit the road.
Mao Hongping didn’t bother questioning whether he really worked for a TV station or not.
Before he left, she even insisted on stuffing a basket of farm-fresh eggs into the backseat of his car.
Wang Yun felt a little awkward about it, but decided he’d bring them back for Director Zhou and the others. After all, it wasn’t easy to get your hands on genuine countryside eggs in the city.
Brother Hu, meanwhile, stayed behind to help Xiao Gang. He’d promised to wrap everything up within ten days.
Wang Yun made the journey alone, driving for a full twenty hours.
It wasn’t until the morning of the third day that he finally arrived in Magic City.
The first thing he did was collapse into bed and sleep.
When he woke up, he felt completely refreshed.
Ding-dong.
Just as Wang Yun stepped out of the bathroom and picked up his phone to scroll through some videos, the doorbell rang.
“Huh? No one should know I live here.”
He frowned.
This place had been arranged for him by the production team. As far as he knew, no one else had the address.
Who could it be?
Wang Yun opened the door with a puzzled look and was greeted by a man in a tailored suit.
The man stood respectfully, his expression polite.
“Mr. Wang, my master has extended an invitation. He sent someone with his contact information before, but it seems you haven’t responded.”
His voice was deep and composed, but there was a sharpness behind his eyes.
Though his words were courteous, the air around him was oppressive.
Especially his gaze—it was cold, calculating, as if trying to see straight through Wang Yun’s soul.
“Your master? Who exactly is that?” Wang Yun asked, clearly unimpressed.
Could it be who he thought?
His brow furrowed slightly.
“Mr. Wang is a clever man,” the suited man replied. “Surely you know.”
“Back in Mao Village…”
As soon as he mentioned Mao Village, Wang Yun understood.
So it really was who he thought.
“So your master couldn’t wait, just because I didn’t call him?”
Wang Yun leaned casually against the doorframe, making no move to invite the man in. Arms crossed, a smirk played on his lips.
The man smiled faintly, though there was a veiled edge to it.
“Please don’t be so resistant, Mr. Wang. Everything will be made clear once you meet him. You should know, my master has been in power for thirty years. Not once has he personally invited anyone. For him to extend an invitation now… it speaks to how highly he regards your talent. Or perhaps it’s simply that he’s grown soft in his old age and feels protective of promising young men.”
His tone remained calm, but the implication was unmistakable.
Anyone could hear it: Don’t be ungrateful.
It was amusing.
Wang Yun’s lips curled into a smile. He took out a cigarette, lit it, and blew a thick cloud of smoke directly into the man’s face.
Fwooo—
Behind the haze of smoke, the man’s expression froze for a moment, but he said nothing.
“Tell your master, the more I see this kind of pressure, the less interested I am. I’ve gone over twenty years without once initiating a meeting with anyone. Well… except my girlfriend, of course.”
Bang!
With that, Wang Yun slammed the door shut.
No hesitation.
The suited man stood silently in front of the closed door for a full three minutes before finally turning to leave.
