Chapter 449: The Frog in the Well. Xiaoyong Is Rescued!
by tinytreeJust as the two owners reached out to pull Wang Yun away, a miracle happened. Xiaoyong’s chest suddenly heaved upward in a powerful arc.
“Cough!” He jolted awake.
“He’s up! He’s awake!”
“Doctor, he’s conscious again!”
“Xiaoyong, can you hear us? How are you feeling?”
The two who had tried to stop Wang Yun immediately redirected their hands, supporting Xiaoyong instead.
Wang Yun, seeing that Xiaoyong had come to, finally let out a long sigh of relief. He wiped the sweat from his forehead. This was more exhausting than running.
“Mr. Wang, you actually brought him back! You’re a doctor, aren’t you?” Supervisor Zhang looked at him, wide-eyed.
Only then did the others around them start to process what had just happened. Dozens of eyes turned to Wang Yun in shock.
He calmly stood and said, “He’s fine now. From now on, know your limits.”
With that, Wang Yun turned to leave.
It was about time; he wanted to shower and get home before Xiao Yanran arrived.
“Brother—!”
Just as he was about to walk away, Xiaoyong’s hoarse voice rang out behind him. He was still panting heavily, his body weakened from the ordeal.
“Thank you… Thank you for saving me.”
Half-reclining on the ground, Xiaoyong looked up at Wang Yun with eyes full of guilt.
“I could hear everything. If it weren’t for you, I might’ve died. I’m sorry for what I said earlier.”
His words were halting, strained.
Even though he had lost consciousness back then, oddly enough, his mind had remained awake. He couldn’t open his eyes, couldn’t breathe, but he could hear.
He heard the others trying to stop Wang Yun.
He heard Wang Yun’s fists thudding against his chest, one after another.
Though painful, each strike seemed to loosen something inside him.
With each blow, his heart relaxed.
And finally, with that final willful push, he expelled the breath trapped in his chest and returned to life.
Wang Yun didn’t reply.
Without even glancing back, he walked over to the treadmill and picked up his water bottle. Then, under the crowd’s gaze, he headed straight for the stairs.
“Mr. Wang! Sir!”
“Hey, handsome, what hospital are you from?”
Xiao Qian called out, but before he could give chase, Dr. Zhao beat him to it.
He raised his voice behind Wang Yun.
That made Wang Yun pause mid-step.
This was the same Dr. Zhao who had scoffed at him moments ago, and now he wanted answers?
Wang Yun turned back with a casual shrug.
“I’m not a doctor. I just like reading.”
Then he looked toward Xiao Qian.
“Oh, and Xiao Qian, I think it’s time we brought in actual doctors for the neighborhood health station. I’m not paying a hundred grand a year in property fees to fund amateurs.”
A hundred grand.
Changing doctors.
Public call-out.
Dr. Zhao’s face flushed bright red. His colleague turned pale.
“You… I…”
Dr. Zhao was speechless, and Xiao Qian looked downright humiliated.
The other owners, overhearing Wang Yun’s comment, instantly stirred.
“Damn, who is this guy?”
“He owns the most expensive villa in the neighborhood. I heard he paid in full. And now he can save lives too?”
“No kidding! Says he just reads casually and still managed to pull someone back from death?”
“When I chose to buy here, I knew this community would be full of hidden talents. I gotta find a way to connect with that guy!”
“Xiao Qian, you better step up. We want real medical staff around here. Money’s not an issue, we want peace of mind.”
“Exactly! We live here. Our lives matter!”
The crowd erupted into voices of support. No one paid much attention to Xiaoyong anymore. All eyes were now fixed on Dr. Zhao.
Their tone became colder.
Even the owner who had initially called Dr. Zhao felt embarrassed, casting the doctor a disappointed look. He could only shake his head.

An hour later, Wang Yun stepped out of his home, freshly showered and changed.
Tonight, he had plans with Xiao Yanran.
They were going out for dinner, maybe catch a movie, some of the latest releases had just hit theaters.
They hadn’t seen each other in days, and the feeling of longing was mutual.
“Yanran, I really envy you. That boyfriend of yours is something else. He disappears for a few days, then comes back to pick you up like a prince. No matter how hard women work, nothing beats being good-looking and lucky.”
“Jealous, much? Then grow up to be as pretty as Yanran, why don’t you?”
Xiao Yanran stood at the entrance of her office building, watching the car approach.
Her cheeks flushed, but her eyes sparkled with joy.
At the same time, she felt a bit sheepish.
It was all Zhu Xiaoxiao’s fault. That blabbermouth had come to work the next day raving about her boyfriend—how rich, how handsome, how he even upgraded her house.
Now, the whole company was envious.
Even their team leader got annoyed.
Thankfully, the team leader wasn’t petty. Once Xiao Yanran explained clearly that Wang Yun wasn’t her cousin but her boyfriend and treated her to three days of gourmet lunches, the leader let it go.
Peace was restored… for now.
