Chapter 466: I Want You to Join Me
by tinytreeWang Yun didn’t bother giving him the slightest bit of face.
Xiao Fu’s expression darkened with embarrassment. This was the first time he’d encountered someone completely impervious to persuasion—like trying to fry tofu with oil and salt that wouldn’t stick.
And speaking to him with that kind of tone? After all these years at Min Zhengguo’s side, no one had ever dared treat him this way. But then again, when he recalled how Wang Yun had just casually referred to his boss as “old man,” he felt a little more balanced.
“You—!”
Min Zhengguo’s anger was clear, his breath catching in his chest. But what Wang Yun had said did make sense.
An awkward silence suddenly settled over the room.
Wang Yun sat leisurely in his chair, one leg crossed over the other, taking slow sips of tea.
Opposite him, Min Zhengguo sat stiffly, his eyes narrowed in irritation.
At his side, Xiao Fu looked no more friendly—his expression clearly hostile.
The only exception was Min Xiaoya, seated beside Wang Yun, her eyes shining with admiration. She couldn’t take her eyes off him.
This was the first time anyone had ever dared reject her grandfather to his face and with such boldness, too.
“Grandpa, didn’t you say you were just coming here today to have tea with Brother Wang Yun?” she chimed in, breaking the silence.
Her words neatly defused the tension in the air. Even though Min Zhengguo was still fuming, her timely reminder gave him the perfect excuse to take a step back.
“Yes. Tea.”
He gave a grunt of acknowledgement.
Xiao Fu moved to pour, but Min Zhengguo raised a hand to stop him. Instead, he personally lifted the teapot and poured Wang Yun a fresh cup.
That caught Wang Yun slightly off guard.
Putting aside who Min Zhengguo was, even just in terms of age, he was still an elder.
“Ahem… thank you,” Wang Yun said.
It was the first time today he’d spoken with anything resembling politeness.
Min Zhengguo’s mood eased ever so slightly at the sound of that “thank you.”
At least things weren’t about to spiral into another shouting match.
“I watched your program. You did well,” he began, tone oddly proud. He was complimenting Wang Yun, but trying his best to hide it.
Wang Yun chuckled. “It was alright. Just standard performance.”
“Brother Wang Yun, it feels like there’s nothing you can’t do!” Min Xiaoya beamed. “Paragliding, skateboarding, racing, carpentry, seriously, is there anything you don’t know how to do?”
She jumped in without hesitation, full of praise. She’d been a fan of his for a long time. She just never expected they’d meet like this. And now that she had, he was even more handsome than she’d imagined.
It was better than she ever dreamed.
The compliments from the two Min family members made Wang Yun scratch his head awkwardly.
“Just dabble in a lot of hobbies, that’s all,” he said modestly.
“Mr. Wang is truly impressive,” Xiao Fu added. “Especially your shooting. Sure, they said it was all props, but from what I know, those props were exact 1:1 replicas. The way you handled that rifle, your speed, precision, prediction… all of it exceeded my expectations.”
The atmosphere in the room had fully thawed.
Xiao Fu’s tone, too, had softened.
This time, Wang Yun didn’t bother pretending to be humble.
People like these—if you weren’t better than them in their domain, you’d never earn their full respect.
“Yeah, I’ve trained in shooting. I also study archery and hand-to-hand combat,” Wang Yun said with a calm nod.
“That’s why—would you be interested in joining us? I think we can help you reach your full potential.”
He had barely finished speaking when Min Zhengguo couldn’t hold back anymore. Before he could say anything, Min Xiaoya shot him a warning glance. But the old man paid her no mind.
He’d come here specifically to recruit Wang Yun, and he had to get to him before Fang Jianguo did.
Wang Yun leaned back slightly in his seat, eyes unreadable as he looked at him.
Unbothered, Min Zhengguo pressed on.
“You’re still young. Sure, you’ve made some money from your show. But how far can that money really take you? At the end of the day, all a man has is his name. Power can buy money, but money can’t buy power.”
His voice was low and steady. No flowery speech, no circling around the point. Just straight truth.
“I can wait,” he continued. “After you’ve had your fill of the entertainment industry, once you’re tired of it, you can come find me. That’s the greatest privilege I’m offering you.”
As he spoke, a rare gentleness appeared on the old man’s face.
“Young people… I get it. I’ve been there. The entertainment industry is full of temptation. But someone like you? Wasting your talent there would be a real shame. I’m speaking from a national perspective when I say this: I sincerely want you to join us.”
When he finished, his expression grew serious once more, his gaze filled with sincerity.
In that moment, he seemed to radiate a quiet authority.
Xiao Fu refilled Wang Yun’s teacup without a word.
Even Min Xiaoya stopped joking around, her eyes locked onto Wang Yun, filled with hopeful anticipation.
If he agreed, she’d get to see him all the time.
Having a real celebrity right in front of you—how amazing was that?
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Wang Yun didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he tapped his fingers rhythmically on the tabletop.
He’d already considered everything Min Zhengguo had said. But the greater the responsibility, the greater the pressure. He wasn’t a man of grand ambitions. He just wanted a peaceful life. A little money, a good wife, simple happiness.
But then again, what young man doesn’t dream of doing something greater?
Of standing for his country, of making a difference?
If he was honest, all that defiance he’d shown earlier was more a test. He’d just wanted to see where this towering old general really stood.
He wasn’t trying to pick a fight.
So the author has a plan for after the show. xD
