His Xiao Yanran… she’d really grown up.

At this moment, all eyes were fixed on the four childhood friends. Especially Xiao Long at the front looked absolutely mortified. The other three weren’t faring much better.

Meanwhile, Xiao Yanran, looking innocent as ever, pulled the car keys from her bag. She left behind just one line.

“I’ll go get the money for you.”

Then she squeezed her way out through the crowd.

That perfectly timed move left the four men frozen on the spot.

    “Wang Yun—gift money, two million!”

A voice rang out with confidence and clarity, like a signal flare streaking through the sky.

It echoed above Mao Village, loud and clear.

The crowd gasped, the murmurs giving way to stunned exclamations.

“Two million? My god! I’ve never seen that kind of money in my life!”

“Unbelievable! What kind of friends does Xiao Gang even have?!”

“Wang Yun, huh? Does he still need more friends? I’m available!”

Every pair of eyes, burning with excitement, zeroed in on Wang Yun.

And just under a minute later, Xiao Yanran returned, carrying a sleek black clutch. Her smile was bright and unassuming. If the mood hadn’t been so tense, her sweetness might’ve melted every heart in sight.

She was too sweet. Too beautiful.

“Got the money~! Brother Wang Yun, let’s focus on Xiao Gang’s wedding first. If we need more later, we can stop by the bank tonight.”

Still smiling, she came up to Wang Yun and opened the clutch.

Anyone with an eye for quality could tell the bag alone was a world-class designer piece, probably more expensive than the money it carried.

Wang Yun stifled a laugh and gently ruffled her soft hair.

    “Alright, whatever you say.”

Xiao Gang stepped forward and gave her a grateful nod. “Thanks, sis-in-law.”

“Don’t worry, Sister-in-law. I’ve got some cash on me for later,” Yangyang chimed in cheerfully, being quite sensible.

“Come on now, let’s not waste time,” Xiao Yanran said, stepping back toward the four men.

She opened her phone and brought up a payment QR code, holding it out in front of them. The sight of it made the four freeze up all over again.

“C’mon, guys. Don’t tell me you can’t even come up with twenty grand each?” You don’t look broke to me. Those car keys hanging off your belts are blinding!”

Old Hu’s voice rang out again, dripping with sarcasm. He was playing the comic relief like the fat guy in a tomb-raiding trio.

Just earlier, Zhuzi had flashed eighteen thousand in his pocket, showing off his wares. Now, he instinctively clutched at his pants, guarding his pocket like it held his soul. His hand was clenched so tightly that veins popped visibly across the back of it.

Xiao Long, who only had a few thousand in cash on him, was gripping the bills so hard they were starting to crumple.

“Uh… hold on. I don’t have enough cash. I’ll have to transfer it from my bank account,” Xiao Long said first, his voice barely audible under the weight of all those staring eyes.

The heat of their stares made him want to crawl into a hole.

After Xiao Long spoke, Zhuzi quickly nodded in agreement.

“Yeah, my money’s in the bank too. I’ve got to withdraw it.”

“Same here, same here,” chimed in the others.

“My wife handles our finances. I’ll get her to send it to me, just give me a sec.”

All four of them whipped out their phones and awkwardly squeezed out through the crowd.

Once they left, the remaining guests quickly stepped forward to hand over their gifts as well.

    It was already 11:30 a.m.

The wedding ceremony was set to begin in just 28 minutes.

At 11:58, the bride and groom would walk on stage.

“You guys go handle everything else,” Old Hu said, turning to Xiao Gang. “I’ll keep an eye on things here. I swear, I’ll make sure those four cough up the full twenty grand each!”

Xiao Gang shot him a glare. “Yeah, right. Those four are all married men. I only gave a thousand at their weddings. No way they’re giving me twenty grand now, don’t even think about it. But whatever. I’ve gotten my point across. I won’t be dealing with them anymore after this.”

He turned to Xiao Yanran with a wry smile.

“Sis-in-law, you should put that money away. Too many people here, and too many mouths.”

Xiao Yanran clutched the black handbag tightly now, her earlier composure gone. Her playful smile had faded too, replaced by a solemn expression.

“Okay, I’ll put it away. Sorry, Xiao Gang… I just couldn’t stand seeing them treat Brother Wang Yun like that.”

She looked down, a little embarrassed.

Xiao Gang quickly waved it off, flustered.

“What are you saying? If anything, I should be apologizing to you two. They’ve been my brothers since childhood, but honestly, they’re just like some folks you see in the countryside, narrow-minded and loud. You helped them grow today. Got taught a hard lesson. Maybe they’ll learn to watch their mouths once they go to the city.”

    Yangyang nodded beside him.

Mao Liang came over too, scratching his head and wearing a sheepish grin.

“Yeah, yeah, Brother Wang Yun, I’m really sorry. Didn’t mean for you to be put on the spot like that.”

Mao Liang wasn’t good with words, but when someone gifts your son two million yuan for his wedding…

Well, no matter how tongue-tied you are, you have to suck up a little.

Wang Yun just waved it off and wrapped an arm around Xiao Yanran.

“It’s alright, Uncle. No big deal. You guys go do your thing, I’ll put the money back. Just save me a seat for the wedding banquet.”

With that, Wang Yun shot a glance at Old Hu.

The three of them quietly turned and walked out of the courtyard.
