    Chapter Index

But it was already too late.

Just as the program inspector uttered the first syllable, Wang Yun’s hand closed around his throat. With a slight squeeze, the inspector’s face instantly flushed crimson.

“You suffocated to death because I crushed your throat. You’re eliminated,” Wang Yun whispered into his ear.

The Program inspector’s face contorted, eyes bulging in disbelief.

【Ding! Congratulations, Host. You have eliminated one Program Inspector. Skill unlocked: Primary Danger Sense!】

    The system notification rang out.

In the next instant, Wang Yun’s mind became incredibly clear. He could distinctly perceive the emotional fluctuations of everyone around him—excitement, nervousness, smug satisfaction, unease. Everything was vivid, as if reality had suddenly sharpened. And strangely, not a single person’s emotion carried hostility toward him.

It stunned Wang Yun. It was almost like he could read hearts.

“Let’s go. Time to leave,” Wang Yun said quietly.

He and Xiao Gang each grabbed one side of the now-unconscious inspector and dragged him into the crowd. He couldn’t leave the body here; that would attract too much attention.

But at the same time, he couldn’t bring him too far either.

“There. Set him down and let’s move.”

A few steps later, Wang Yun spotted a chair and unceremoniously dumped the inspector onto it.

The man’s eyes were closed, but his eyelids twitched violently.

He was unwilling; he had been on the verge of a promotion to squad leader. But now, before he even got the title, he was eliminated. Yet no matter how angry he was, it was useless.

    This was how it ended.

With that handled, Wang Yun and Xiao Gang made their way back to the inn where they’d been staying.

On the way, they ran into several fugitives.

No denying it—this batch had guts.

Even though the markers on their wrists were more or less hidden, a closer look could still make them out.

These people were trying to ride the chaos and maybe pull off a comeback.

All of them were burly, physically imposing types—probably martial artists. Most likely, they were thinking along the same lines as Wang Yun.

Half an hour later, the two returned to the inn.

After a quick wash-up and prep, they set out again, this time toward the chemical supply store.

This was the safest time window.

Most of the program inspectors had rushed over to Building 3 by now.

“Boss, are we actually gonna pocket that 100,000?”

Xiao Gang was buzzing with excitement, tossing pebbles from his pocket one after another. No point keeping them now; they’d pulled it off.

“Yeah. We’ll split the money evenly.”

Wang Yun was in high spirits. Not because of the money, though.

    It was the skill.

With Primary Danger Sense, catching him would now be exponentially harder.

As long as he didn’t throw himself into a trap, even if the king of heaven himself came down, he wouldn’t be afraid.

If he couldn’t win, he’d just run. Chase if you dare.

“You’re the one who eliminated him; has nothing to do with me.”

Xiao Gang quickly held up his hands. He wasn’t going to take credit that wasn’t his. And he would make sure everyone else knew that too—no participation, no payout.

What, you think the boss is gonna feed you for free?

Turns out, Xiao Gang had guessed exactly right.

That’s exactly what the production team wanted—to burden Wang Yun with this freeloading crew during his escape.

To make things harder for him.

“I don’t even care about the money anymore. Anyway, enough talk, when we’re buying supplies, you keep an eye on the entrance. Stay sharp,” Wang Yun said, nodding toward the chemical supply store up ahead.

It was time to return to his old trade.

Whether he changed his identity or not didn’t matter much anymore. All the people around him were strangers anyway.

Still, Wang Yun didn’t trust anyone.

He was convinced the production team wouldn’t play it straight.

What if there was a mole in his crew? What if someone purposely blew their cover to drag him down?

To prevent disaster, he had to make sure there were no loose ends.

The shopping process went smoothly. Xiao Gang didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary either.

Both of them were in great spirits.

All the danger had been redirected to the residential building. Meanwhile, the two of them strolled the streets without a care.

“Let’s grab some food to take back for the others. They’ll probably wake up in a couple of hours,” Wang Yun suggested.

“Sounds good! Boss knows best!” Xiao Gang grinned ear to ear.

They headed toward a restaurant a little ways down the road. They were only going to patronize the larger restaurants.

The smaller and shadier a place looked, the more likely it was to be dangerous. Even program inspectors knew that much.

“That one, three stories,” Wang Yun pointed it out.

By the time they got there, it was just about dinner hour. The three-story restaurant was packed. The servers greeted them warmly the moment they walked in.

“Takeout, please.” Wang Yun ordered quickly and waited by the side.

They lit up a couple cigarettes and sat just outside, openly enjoying the view.

“Gotta say, foreign scenery really is something. No skyscrapers blocking the sun.” Xiao Gang sighed in admiration.

Wang Yun shot him a sideways glance.

“What, you’ve never seen a rural village in Dragon Country? Don’t act like such a bootlicker.”

“Haha, no, Boss, I didn’t mean it like that!”

Just as they were chatting, a sudden outburst erupted from inside the restaurant.

“Who the hell do you think you are?! Get your boss out here!”
