Chapter 520: Why Does Everyone Act Like a Jealous Wife?
by tinytreeWang Yun went all out this time.
With eight people to feed, he ordered ten pizzas, ten plates of pasta, and a wide variety of dishes—grilled beef, burgers, and more.
After all, they were all grown men with huge appetites. He could tell from last time by just looking at how they devoured the seafood. Dozens of pounds gone in under ten minutes, and they still didn’t look full.
So this second meal had to be big enough to truly satisfy everyone.
Besides, they were all rolling in money now.
“Thanks, boss.”
Wang Yun glanced at the stack of takeaway bags on the counter, slightly surprised.
The portions seemed way bigger than what he’d actually ordered. The restaurant owner had thrown in a bunch of extras.
“You’re picking up for coworkers, right? That’s a lot to carry. Let me help you bring it over,” the boss said warmly.
“I’m free right now anyway. No trouble at all, don’t worry about it,” he added quickly when he saw Wang Yun about to decline.
Wang Yun had the refusal on the tip of his tongue but ultimately nodded. They really couldn’t carry it all themselves.
“It’s not far. About twenty minutes.”
Even for someone like the boss—who spent all day on his feet in the kitchen and had more stamina than most—after hauling heavy food for twenty minutes beside Wang Yun, he was panting hard. His back was nearly bent in exhaustion.
“We’re here. Some fishing buddies of mine are staying at this inn for the time being.”
Wang Yun gestured toward the inn, sticking to the story he’d made up earlier that morning.
“Got it. I’ll help you carry everything up, then I’ll head out,” the boss said, already climbing the stairs behind Wang Yun like a trooper.
When they got upstairs, the group was already awake.
They all sat in the room looking anxious. But the moment they saw Wang Yun and Xiao Gang walk in, their faces lit up with joy and anticipation.
“What’s with those long faces? We just went out to get food for you.” Xiao Gang laughed when he saw their startled expressions.
Even Old Hu looked like he was reuniting with a long-lost relative.
Their expressions practically screamed: Boss, why did you abandon us?!
“What are you all standing around for? Dig in before it gets cold.” Wang Yun chuckled helplessly.
The others looked past him to the restaurant owner behind.
“Oh, this is the boss of the place we bought from. Try his cooking. Funny thing is, he bought the seafood from us this morning, and now he’s selling it back to us.”
Wang Yun’s words made everyone burst into laughter.
“How much do we owe you for the food?”
Wang Yun was just about to pull out some cash, but the boss waved his hands hurriedly.
“No need, this meal’s on me. After what you did for me today, I don’t even know how to thank you. I was planning to have a drink with you, but now I see you’ve got a whole group. Another time, then.”
He smiled and waved it off.
Wang Yun didn’t say anything; he just pulled out a thousand yuan and stuffed it into the boss’s pocket, no room for argument.
“Take it. Business is business. If not, go buy some drinks and join us for a round.”
Before the boss could react, Old Hu caught him by the arm.
“Yeah, boss! This is fate! It’s already evening, and your restaurant isn’t busy now. You’re our first real friend in this place.”
Old Hu was quick to bounce back from his emo moments.
Old Zhou also stepped forward with a grin and offered him a cigarette. “Young man, you’re spoiling us now.”
Seeing everyone’s enthusiasm, the boss couldn’t help but get emotional. They’d saved his dignity and treated him like family.
“All right, give me ten minutes!”
With that, he turned and dashed downstairs without hesitation.
No sooner had the boss disappeared than Wang Yun felt a heavy object slam into him. If he hadn’t caught sight of that familiar face at the last second, he might’ve already punched it with a fist the size of a sandbag.
“Boss, wahhh! Why’d you leave without a word? Why didn’t you take me with you?! I woke up and didn’t see you. Do you have any idea how heartbroken I was?!”
Old Hu clung to Wang Yun like a jilted lover, refusing to let go.
Wang Yun yanked his shoulder away, tossing him aside.
“When did you turn into such a crybaby?”
He shot him a glare and patted the spot where he’d been touched, pretending to be disgusted.
“Boss, if you’re ever heading out again, just let us know, we’re ready whenever you need us.”
“Yeah, Boss! Maybe we’re not as capable as Hu-ge or Gang-ge, but we can still carry stuff or go buy food.”
Old Zhou and Big Mouth chimed in immediately.
Xiang Xiang raised his hand eagerly, and Xiao Gao nodded with all his might.
Even Thirteen looked up at Wang Yun and gave him a subtle nod, silently expressing his support.
Wang Yun turned to Xiao Gang, clearly asking him to explain things. This kind of emotional crowd wasn’t his strong suit. So Xiao Gang gave a simple rundown of everything that had happened today.
By the end, everyone wore the exact same expression.
Mouths wide open, stunned into silence.
Except for Old Hu, who somehow managed to look proud.
