Chapter 267: Human Camouflage Suit, Can You Climb Trees?
by tinytreeWithout a doubt, none of the three were afraid of heights. How could they be? They’d even flown off cliffs before.
Basically, if you hung around Wang Yun long enough, he’d cure your fear of heights and any other random phobias.
Climbing trees was a natural instinct for guys. As kids, who hadn’t done it? Even as adults, they still wanted to—though pride often got in the way.
Wang Yun had already built a glider before, so making something as simple as a camouflage suit was child’s play for him. Grabbing a bunch of random weeds, he sat on the ground and, in just half an hour, he had already woven a piece of clothing.
“Boss, what are you doing? Do we have enough grass for this?” Brother Hu asked, while he and the others continued pulling at the grass.
Wang Yun glanced over.
“Almost done. I’ve changed my mind. We can’t just run off that easily. It’d be embarrassing. I’m Wang Yun, after all. We’ve got to give the fans something exciting to watch. Let’s pull a little disappearing act, some camouflage.”
Wang Yun grinned. He was pumped. This was the first time he’d tried something this bold.
“Camouflage?” Brother Hu’s curiosity was piqued.
He quickly guessed Wang Yun’s plan. It was obvious they were going to wear these suits and hide in plain sight.
“Boss, you mean we’re going to climb trees, wear these suits, and watch them from above?” Little Gang asked.
Wang Yun nodded and gave him a thumbs up.
“Exactly. You guys pick your trees. They didn’t bring any sniffer dogs this time, so as long as we hide well, they won’t find us. Besides, no one’s going to think we’re up in the trees.”
As he spoke, Wang Yun’s hands moved rapidly, weaving the suits. To an outsider, it would’ve looked like this was his full-time job. He was that fast. So fast, in fact, that viewers in the livestream were starting to get dizzy just watching him.
“Haha, this is going to be wild! I can already picture it in my head!”
“You really are something, Boss. I can’t believe you came up with such a… uh, brilliant idea,” Brother Hu quickly corrected himself, while Xiao Gang and Wang Zi stifled their laughter.
Wang Yun shot him a glare but didn’t respond.
Two hours later, Wang Yun had finished four large cloaks made entirely out of woven grass. The cloaks were huge, big enough to cover each of them completely.
Wang Yun had Brother Hu try one on, and when he lay down on the grass, even with Wang Yun’s god-level eyesight, it was almost impossible to spot him—unless Brother Hu moved or Wang Yun kept staring directly at him.
It was impossible to spot him.
And that was during the day—imagine at night. Even if you shined a flashlight directly at them, it’d be hard to notice unless you literally tripped over them.
“Boss, this is insane! You can’t see anything at all.”
“This is basically a walking ghillie suit!”
Xiao Gang and Wang Zi looked at Brother Hu, who was hidden nearby, and couldn’t help but shout.
It was truly impressive. They really couldn’t see him at all.
Wang Yun clapped his hands, pleased. “Not bad, huh? Looks like I’ve still got the skills. If I ever retire from being a fugitive, I might as well set up shop selling grass hats.”
“Forget hats, this is genius!”
Brother Hu stood up, equally amazed. With this cloak, what was there to be afraid of? The program inspectors wouldn’t be able to see a thing.
“Alright, the sun’s about to set. Let’s grab something to eat. Speaking of which, why are these guys taking so long? They still haven’t shown up.”
Wang Yun glanced at the sky. They’d started moving around six o’clock, and now the sun was about to set. The entire forest was growing darker, and danger was looming, yet there was still no sign of them.
“Before we got here, I asked the locals. This forest is huge, so even with a lot of people, it’ll take them at least a day or two to search the whole place,” Little Gang said, sounding a bit worried. “I just hope they don’t wait until tomorrow morning to reach this area.”
Wang Yun nodded in agreement.
That would be a problem. If they showed up the next morning, all his preparations would go to waste. The powder he scattered would only attract the poisonous creatures at night. During the day, they stayed hidden, avoiding the sunlight. They preferred dark, damp, dirty places.
“Let’s not think too much about it. Whatever happens, happens. I’m starving. Boss, I’m breaking out the bread,” Brother Hu said, unable to hold back any longer.
From morning until now, they’d only had some water and a few bites of biscuits. They hadn’t dared to look for food in the area, relying on the limited rations they’d brought with them.
These rations were finite, so each meal counted. But right now, they didn’t care about that anymore.
The four of them quickly filled their stomachs and buried the wrappers deep in the ground. Without a sniffer dog, no one would be able to find them.
Once they were full, the sun had fully set. The forest had become eerily quiet. Nighttime in the forest marked the true beginning of danger.
Wang Yun and the others each found a sturdy and overgrown tree nearby and climbed up. They also covered themselves with realgar powder. Even if they weren’t climbing trees, they couldn’t stay on the ground anymore.
Because right beneath their feet, the unmoved grass had started to sway back and forth. The poisonous creatures were on the move.
Just what Wang Yun could see—over ten centipedes were crawling out from every direction, moving quickly, with some even emerging from the soil. The sight alone made their skin crawl.
And snakes were starting to show up, too.
Meanwhile, the program inspectors were only 10 kilometers away from Wang Yun and his group. Every one of the inspectors had tired faces, but their expressions were mostly filled with tension.
Zhao Youcheng had already given the order to retreat, but Wu Mingyu and the others refused.
They were almost done. There was just one spot left to search, the southwest corner. Everything else had already been covered.
All of their hopes were now pinned on the southwest corner.
“Old Zhao, just give us another six hours. After six hours, we’ll have searched the entire forest. And I’ve got a strong feeling Wang Yun and his crew are definitely hiding in the southwest corner. On our way here, we found two very fresh footprints. We’ve already compared them—they belong to Wang Yun. He’s definitely in this forest!” Wu Mingyu said into the walkie-talkie. Behind him, his team members were filled with excitement. “Captain Alfa has already investigated. The southwest corner is a dead end, there’s no way out.”
In other words, if Wang Yun was in the southwest corner, he’d have no escape.
Meanwhile, Zhao Youcheng was in the observation room, frowning as he listened to the conversation over the walkie-talkie and watched the live feed.
“Captain Wu, I understand your urgency, but it’s getting dark. The forest is very dangerous at night. If it’s not convenient to retreat, just rest for now. When the sun rises–”
“Captain! We’ve found something!” a voice suddenly shouted through the walkie-talkie, cutting Zhao Youcheng off.
In the footage, a team member pointed to a nearby open area. In a crevice between some rocks, right where the flashlight was shining, you could vaguely make out some food scraps that hadn’t fully dried out, blown out from the gap by the wind.
“Someone’s been here! Those are leftover mushrooms!”
