Chapter 271: The Program Inspectors Flee in Disarray!
by tinytreeThe chaos lasted for twenty minutes.
And during those twenty minutes, Wang Yun and the others stayed perched up in the trees, watching the whole scene unfold. Wang Yun and the viewers in the livestream were completely engrossed in what they were seeing.
It was just too exciting, too intense!
“I swear, I can feel their fear and panic even through the screen! This is awesome!”
“Don’t even talk about it. I was about to go to the bathroom, but now I’m holding it in. I don’t even want to step on the floor, let alone go to the restroom!”
“I’ve turned on every light in my house. I feel like there are snakes and bugs lurking in every corner!”
“I wonder how those inspectors are doing. It looked like some of them got hurt!”
“Man, Wang Yun is a genius! I was wondering why he was blowing on that leaf earlier. It turns out it was to lure the monkeys!”
The chat in the livestream was buzzing with excitement. Just a little while ago, when Wang Yun blew on the leaf, everyone thought he was just trying to attract the inspectors. But no one expected that he was actually calling the wild monkeys.
It wasn’t just the viewers who were stunned, Wang Yun’s teammates, Brother Hu and the others, were just as shocked.
Only after the inspectors had completely fled, and the snakes and insects on the ground had dispersed, did the four finally climb down from the trees, trembling.
Their bodies had been shaking uncontrollably while they were up in the trees. The immersion was so strong. It was so intense that their scalps were tingling. Brother Hu was so nervous that he dug his nails into the tree bark until his fingers bled. Wang Zi and Xiao Gang were barely breathing, too scared to even take a deep breath.
As they stepped down onto the ground, they were still hunched over, shining their flashlights carefully at the ground beneath them. Because of the chaos earlier, and with so many people involved, it was hard to say if all the snakes and insects had really been scared away.
The air was still thick with the scent of sulfur and the repellent powder that had been scattered around.
The area where Wang Yun and the others were standing was now completely devoid of any living creatures.
Even standing there, Wang Yun and his team found it hard to breathe because of the strong, lingering smell.
“Whew… Boss, you don’t think they’ll come back, do you?” Brother Hu asked nervously, covering his mouth as if his fingers could filter out the toxic air.
Wang Yun casually brushed off the layers of powder, chuckling to himself.
“These guys are insane. I bet they must’ve thrown out dozens of pounds of sulfur powder today. They’ll definitely come back, probably tomorrow morning, but we’ve got at least five hours,” Wang Yun said as he looked into the distance.
He couldn’t hear any footsteps anymore. Their retreat was incredibly fast.
“So, should we stay here or leave?” Xiao Gang asked, his voice a bit raspy from the tension.
After witnessing everything that just happened, who wouldn’t be nervous to the point of feeling their scalp tingle?
Wang Yun glanced around.
“Sigh, I originally planned to stay here for a few more days, but it looks like that’s not possible now. Our tracks are exposed. We can’t stay in this entire forest anymore. But we can’t leave through this forest either, so it seems we’ll have to go through Enclosed Mountain.”
Wang Yun looked over his shoulder, a bit worried. He didn’t want to enter Enclosed Mountain—that was supposed to be his last resort.
“Well, let’s wait a bit before leaving. I’m going to gather more of that powder. There’s still some of the stuff they left behind in their panic. With this stuff, I won’t be afraid of anything.”
With that, Brother Hu walked over to the side, where a large container resembling a pesticide sprayer was lying in the tall grass. He hoisted the big container onto his back. It even had a handle. When you pressed down on it, the left side of the container would spray a fine mist that was perfect for keeping snakes and other poisonous creatures at bay. It even worked on the wild monkeys.
“Geez, they even left behind their life-saving gear,” Xiao Gang remarked.
“Come on, Brother Gang, if it were you, you’d sprint out of here and ditch even the protective suit because it’s too bulky!” Wang Zi joked, trying to lighten the mood now that the inspectors were gone.
“I’d be grabbing onto a wild monkey’s arm and letting it fly me out of here.”
“Yeah right. The monkey would probably gouge your eyes out first.”
The three of them started joking around, finally feeling a bit more relaxed.
Wang Yun chuckled along with them, then began searching the area for any gear the inspectors had dropped. He had to admit, these guys had come prepared. On the ground, there were ropes, climbing hooks, various pills, cooling ointments, antidote pills, and even in the grass, Wang Yun found a single shoe.
Yes, just one shoe—and it was wet, reeking of a fishy stench.
“Yikes, did someone pee themselves? No way, bro…”
Wang Yun quickly moved on, gathering all the useful items they hadn’t brought with them.
“Pack up, guys. Dig out your bags, we’re heading to Enclosed Mountain,” Wang Yun called out to the three who had been joking around.
The moment they heard that, they quickly stopped laughing and headed to where they’d buried their bags earlier. From under several trees, they dug out four bags. After brushing off the dirt, they stuffed the items Wang Yun had given them into the bags.
“Hey, Boss, there’s a set of protective gear over here,” Xiao Gang said as he picked up a protective suit that someone had discarded on the hillside.
Apart from a few tears around the ankle area, the rest of it was in pretty good shape.
“Can’t believe someone actually ditched their suit. That’s like asking for trouble!” Wang Zi said, a bit surprised.
“Let Brother Hu wear it. He’s the most skittish among us,” Wang Yun joked, looking over at Xiao Gang.
“I’m not scared! I just have a natural fear of these things. But if you asked me to be a human bomb, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second!” Brother Hu protested loudly as he quickly grabbed the suit.
The three of them chuckled at his reaction.
Once they were all set, had a drink of water, and ate some rations, Wang Yun led them to the riverbank. Since it was nighttime, the small path on the hillside by the river was hard to spot. The thick grass around it made it even more hidden. If you didn’t push the grass aside, you wouldn’t even know the path was there.
“Ready? It might be even more dangerous in Enclosed Mountain,” Wang Yun said seriously as he looked at the three of them. “I’ll go first. Keep an eye out for any places where we can rest. If you spot somewhere with enough space to sit, let me know right away.”
With that, he tossed a hook up, and it securely latched into a crack in the hillside rock.
“Let’s go!” Wang Yun quietly urged as he began climbing up.

Meanwhile, Wu Yaoming and his team had already made it halfway back. The medical team had arrived to support them, armed with various weapons.
“Hurry, get over here!”
The first group to meet them was led by Captain Hardy and his team of elite program inspectors. Each of them was holding two long, curved weapons, their muscular frames forming an imposing wall.
The terrified and bedraggled inspectors, snot and tears streaming down their faces, rushed past them, grateful for the backup.
