Chapter 274: My wife said she didn’t like the Boss, so I made her the defendant!
by tinytreeIf he were the captain of the program inspection team, he would probably reorganize the team immediately and head this way as quickly as possible. He would also set up investigators along the river’s path, stationing them at each section to capture them.
Right now, the closest point to get ashore from the river was near the surrounding mountain.
In other words, if they want to catch them directly, they would have no choice but to enter the mountain.
The surrounding mountain was full of dangers, far more perilous than where they were now. If they wanted to venture inside, they’d need to come up with a foolproof plan. They already suffered losses in the jungle, leaving a mental scar on them. If they planned to enter the mountain this time, they were sure to hesitate.
“So, if we really want to shake them off, heading into the mountain is our only option,” Wang Yun murmured to himself.
But entering the mountain meant they’d have to do it soon. Also, the mountain was anything but safe.
The program inspectors would definitely comb through it in a thorough search.
‘Even if we make it into the mountain, we’ll probably have to keep running,’ Wang Yun thought, feeling a headache coming on.
Up until now, he’d always considered the mountain his last card to play. But now it seemed like this group had mobilized on a much larger scale than he’d expected.
The sheer size of their operation was something Wang Yun hadn’t accounted for, shattering all of his plans. Now, it seemed like he had no way out.
‘I wonder where this river eventually leads to,’ Wang Yun thought as he gazed at the river below the mountain.
If it weren’t for Brother Hu and the others being with him, he would’ve probably done something reckless—like jumping into the river and following it to see where it led.
The most likely scenario would be the river flowing into the ocean, merging with the surrounding sea. If that were the case, it could offer a way to escape.
As this thought crossed Wang Yun’s mind, he glanced back at the three who were still sound asleep. He shook his head quietly. There was no way he would ever abandon his brothers. But, for now, where should they go?
This left him feeling a bit melancholic. Despite a slight hint of worry, he quickly fell asleep.
When they woke up the next morning, it wasn’t by choice. They were stirred awake by a noise coming from the river at the base of the mountain.
“Wake up! That sound it’s the machine fish,” Wang Yun said, nudging the others awake.
They also heard it and immediately sat up straight.
“Machine fish?” Brother Hu asked, rubbing his sleepy eyes in confusion.
“The thing the leader was holding last night,” Xiao Gang explained.
“I saw it too,” added Wang Zi. “After Captain Wu gave his orders, one of his men pulled a fish-like machine out of their bag. It had a remote control, probably for underwater detection.”
Wang Yun nodded. “Exactly. I’ve never seen this kind of high-tech stuff before, but I’m sure it’s not that loud. For us to hear it buzzing like this, there must be several of them in the water at once.”
“Looks like they’ve already started.”
With that, Wang Yun peeked around to check their surroundings.
At the moment, there was no sign of anyone nearby, and there was no way they’d try climbing over this little hill the way he did. Plus, the middle section of the hill had no path, and with that many people, if they all tried rock climbing one by one, it’d be chaotic and slow—not to mention risky. Without solid footing, they could easily fall.
These program inspectors were probably even more cautious than he was when things weren’t guaranteed.
“Whew, good thing we didn’t go down to the river, or we’d have been spotted for sure,” Brother Hu said, clearly relieved.
Xiao Gang rolled his eyes at Brother Hu, “What are you scared of? They’ve only just started their operation. If we had really gone down the river, we’d already be ashore by now.”
His words made Brother Hu feel a bit embarrassed.
“These past couple of days with that snake swarm scared the brains out of me. You’ve got a point though… but wouldn’t they be lying in wait at the riverbank?”
Wang Yun nodded as he casually pulled out a piece of bread. “You’re not completely brain-dead yet. Of course, they’ll be setting up an ambush. So, here’s the plan—simple and easy. We just stay put in this cave, hang out for three to five days, and those guys will eventually give up and leave.”
Wang Yun ripped open the wrapper and took a big bite. The bread was dry and took some effort to swallow. It wasn’t until after he gulped it down that he realized—they were out of water.
They only had three bottles left. Forget three to five days, they wouldn’t even last the morning.
But the other three hadn’t caught on and were happily munching away on their bread.
Wang Yun peeked down at the river below. It was at least a ten-meter drop. Fetching water wouldn’t be too tough, just a bit tricky.
“Take it easy for now. I’ll go down for water when it gets a little darker,” Wang Yun said, looking over at Brother Hu. “You’ve got the water filter on you, right?”
“Yeah, I’ve got it, boss! To be honest, if you hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have realized we’re out of water,” Brother Hu said, patting his bag.
“By the time you noticed, we’d all be dead from thirst,” Xiao Gang teased with a grin.
Brother Hu decided to keep quiet this time. His brain really hadn’t been working properly these past few days, all thanks to that snake swarm that scared the sense right out of him.
Suddenly, the four of them found themselves in a rare moment of relaxation. The viewers in the livestream couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, too. Ever since Wang Yun had entered the jungle, they’d been on edge, worried about the countless unpredictable dangers lurking around.
“Alright, seems like Big Bro’s finally taking a break, guess I’ll take a few days off too!” one of the viewers commented.
“To keep up with Big Bro’s show, I straight-up fired my boss!”
“The guy above, I went even further. I divorced my wife! She actually likes Captain Wu Mingyu, and I was so mad I made her the defendant! We’re still in the middle of divorce court!”
“Wow, 666! Everyone, chill with the rage. Put your phones down and go about your day. Big Brother will probably lay low for two or three days now!”
The reaction from the livestream audience was something the producer hadn’t expected.
He thought that with Wang Yun taking a break, the viewer count would plummet, but to his surprise, it kept climbing.
There was only one reason for this. People wanted to enjoy the view of nature through Wang Yun’s lens.
It was summer break, and over the past couple of days, the show’s popularity had skyrocketed again. Hardcore wilderness survival fans had tuned in to watch Wang Yun’s escape and survival journey.
Especially when Wang Yun mentioned that they were running out of water and he’d have to go down to fetch some and filter it. This immediately attracted the attention of rock-climbing enthusiasts and nature lovers.
This was something the executive producer never saw coming.
News about Wang Yun’s trip to Yun City had spread worldwide. In fact, local officials from Yun City had already reached out to him, asking if Wang Yun could become their tourism ambassador.
Tourism had always been one of Yun City’s most important industries.
At that moment, the producer was sitting in the studio, feeling a bit conflicted. He was trying to figure out how to bring up the idea to Wang Yun. Becoming a tourism ambassador would be a golden opportunity for both the show and Wang Yun, but the tricky part was, the officials had some very specific demands—demands that Wang Yun might not agree to.
