    Chapter Index

Wang Yun’s actions brought tears to the eyes of many watching the live stream. It no longer felt like just a show. It seemed like a real-life escape. Even the most hardened criminal, when it came to protecting his brothers, was willing to put his life on the line.

Everyone had a sense of humanity, a conscience. Even the worst of people were born with a heart filled with goodness.

“I’m crying!!! My dad just walked in, saw the tissues by my bed, and told me to take care of myself!”

“This is too emotional! How can they keep running like this? He’s definitely got some internal injuries!”

“As a medical professional for years, I can confidently say, with such a hard impact, his ribs are bound to be broken!”

“Is the big guy okay? He looks seriously hurt!”

“Where’s the production crew? Hey, production team, get out here! Your star is injured!”

The viewers in the livestream began shouting in concern. Even students who had initially tuned in to watch the tropical rainforest were now feeling anxious.

Most people have the ability to empathize, and the producer was no exception.

“Brother Wang, brother Wang, are you alright? Do you need to stop filming? How’s your condition?”

The executive producer hurriedly spoke through the walkie-talkie.

At that moment, all Wang Yun could hear was the constant rush of water in his ears. The production equipment was waterproof, but the noise from the water was so loud that the producer’s voice came through in broken bits.

“Boss, Wang Zi’s okay, but you need to lie down. Does your chest hurt?”

Lao Hu was visibly worried as he lifted Wang Yun’s shirt to check his back. His back was already red and swollen. Though it hadn’t turned black or blue yet, it was only a matter of time before the bruising would show.

Wang Yun quickly pulled his shirt back down.

“No worries, I know my own body. Wake up Wang Zi, we need to move quickly.”

Wang Yun grimaced as he sat up, panting heavily. That hit had hurt, no doubt about it. But thankfully, it hadn’t caused any internal damage. His ribs were intact, just some surface-level pain.

Luckily, his body was built tough. If it had been anyone else, they might have coughed up blood on the spot!

“Big Brother, are you sure you’re okay?”

Brother Lao Hu and Xiao Gang stared at Wang Yun in disbelief. He didn’t look like someone who’d just taken a heavy hit.

Wang Yun waved his hand and shot them a glare. “Hurry up and wake Wang Zi.”

    “Oh, right! On it!”

Under Wang Yun’s sharp order, Brother Hu quickly rushed over and patted Wang Zi’s face. Wang Zi had briefly passed out from nearly drowning. But after a few firm slaps, he coughed twice and slowly opened his eyes.

“Where are we…?” Wang Zi mumbled, still a little dazed, only remembering being in the river moments ago.

“You passed out after choking on water. If it weren’t for Boss, who risked his life and smashed into the rock to save you, you’d be long gone by now!” Brother Hu shouted, relieved to see Wang Zi awake.

Wang Zi finally regained his senses, looking at the rushing water around them before turning to Wang Yun.

“Big Brother! I’m so sorry, the current was just too strong!”

“No need for all that talk. Take a moment to catch your breath, and then we’ll head out,” Wang Yun said, satisfied that Wang Zi was alright, easing the tension in his heart.

They were playing for real now. If something dangerous happened, there was no crew to pull them out and provide medical care. Not to mention, in a situation like this, the current was too strong for anyone to reach them. Even with the filming crew nearby, they wouldn’t dare get in the river.

Wang Yun rubbed his chest as his breathing gradually became steady again.

Brother Hu and Xiao Gang kept their eyes on him. They knew that internal injuries didn’t always show immediately. It could take about ten minutes for symptoms to appear. Once they did, it could be too late for help.

The viewers in the live stream were also worried.

They feared that Wang Yun might have internal injuries. The executive producer was pacing anxiously in the control room, while in another live stream, Director Fang had already stood up. He stared intently at the screen.

“No, Wang Yun must have internal injuries. Start emergency procedures,” Director Fang said, deeply concerned.

It was hard to count how many times Director Fang had gotten this anxious throughout the show.

“Director Fang, even if we wanted to take action now, it’s too late,” the producer’s voice came through. “The nearest medical team is with the program inspectors, and they’re already on their way to catch Wang Yun. Where Wang Yun is right now, no one can reach him. Even if they could, by the time they got there, if something really is wrong, it’ll be too late.”

Director Fang’s livestream showed all the available footage, which could be seen by everyone tuning in.

Meanwhile, the program inspectors had indeed split into three teams to track down Wang Yun. The closest team followed his group’s route along the mountainside, chasing them down.

Wang Yun and his group were about ten kilometers away from the inspectors.

Even though this was the closest team, they were moving at the slowest pace. The hillside was extremely steep, and the further they went, the narrower the path became. Even the experienced climbers leading the way had trembling legs as they walked.

The second team was focused on the water route. They used the drone fish for surveillance.

However, the fish weren’t particularly fast, as they had to exert a lot of force to push against the river’s strong current. When Wang Yun’s group entered the water, the drones hadn’t captured it because they were still positioned behind them.

A few drone fish had been recalled to the point where Wang Yun had first been spotted.

The river was wide, so as the machine fish swam back, Wang Yun and his team had already entered the water and passed by unnoticed.

At this point, the inspectors led by Zhao Youcheng hadn’t found any trace of Wang Yun on their screens. They guessed that Wang Yun’s group must have moved ahead of them.

Now, the drones were trying to catch up, but they couldn’t go too fast for fear of overshooting their target and missing him entirely—an error that would be costly.

The remaining team was led by Wu Yaoming.

At this point, they hadn’t even made it out of the original forest yet. It would take at least another hour for them to exit, and then they would still have to head to the neighboring Enclosed Mountain. Although the two forests were adjacent, their vast size made travel between them slow. The only connection between the two was the river route. So to get to Enclosed Mountain, they had to first leave the current forest.

The nearest landing point on the river was deep within Enclosed Mountain, meaning they would also have to cross the entire area to reach it. This whole journey—back and forth—would take at least five to six hours. On top of that, Enclosed Mountain was full of dangers, and every step had to be taken with extreme caution.

“You should never have let Wang Yun go to such a dangerous place!” Director Fang said.

He was furious after hearing the producer’s explanation.

The producer, feeling helpless, held his walkie-talkie, speechless.

All these decisions had been made by Wang Yun himself, and before the show even aired, each contestant had signed a waiver, taking full responsibility for their actions. The show’s role was only to broadcast what was happening, without any direct control.

“Oh? Director Fang, look at Wang Yun. He really seems fine. It looks like he’s about to head back into the river!”
