Chapter 281: Found a Landing Spot, Brother Hu’s Wrist Dislocated!
by tinytreeDirector Fang turned to the screen. Sure enough, the footage showed Wang Yun standing up. He stretched his body, and just when everyone thought he was about to dive headfirst into the river, Wang Yun reached out his hand. The four of them linked hands once more.
Splash!
Huge waves of water splashed up as the four of them entered the water again.
This time, they were much more composed than before.
However, Brother Hu insisted that Wang Yun stay at the back. Concerned about his condition, brother Hu took the lead, with Wang Yun at the rear, controlling their pace.
This worked out, as Wang Yun had much more strength than the others.
They floated along the current, occasionally bumping into rocks hidden beneath the water.
At one point, Brother Hu’s leg struck a rock. The river immediately washed the blood away, but it wasn’t too serious. Still, with his leg injured, Xiao Gang switched to the front while Brother Hu moved to third in line.
Their entire journey was basically blind navigation, with no idea what lay ahead.
The person at the front had to bear the brunt of the risks. The four of them took turns leading, but as the water level continued to drop, their speed increased dramatically.
By this point, Wang Yun could clearly feel that they were moving at about 40 km/h. No matter how hard he tried, he could barely slow them down. To make things worse, steps or small waterfalls began to appear, further accelerating their descent.
Every time they dropped down a level, their speed picked up a bit.
Just when Wang Yun was starting to feel unsure, he suddenly spotted something not far ahead.
There was a gap along the riverbank. It wasn’t exactly a gap—just a lower part of the shore. It was about two meters high, and they could easily climb out from there.
“Xiao Gang, switch with me!” Wang Yun shouted.
He grabbed Lao Hu’s arm and, following that, grabbed Wang Zi’s arm too. Finally, he pulled Xiao Gang into place.
“I’ll take the lead. There’s a gap up ahead. We’ll get out there!” Wang Yun called out.
“Got it!” Xiao Gang nodded, grabbed hold of Wang Yun, and pushed him to the front.
Wang Yun moved back into his lead position, eyes locked on the gap about a kilometer ahead.
Behind him, Brother Hu yelled, “Boss, are you seeing things? Where’s this gap you’re talking about? Boss, your eyesight’s not going, is it?”
Wang Yun chose to ignore Brother Hu. This guy never could say anything nice.
Xiao Gang and Wang Zi didn’t see the gap either, but neither of them said a word. They trusted the boss.
“Everyone, lean to the left! We’ve got 800 meters to go! We need to grab onto the water plants along the left bank! No matter what it takes, we’ve got to grab them!” Wang Yun turned and shouted back at them.
This was their best chance.
If they missed this gap, there’d be no going back. The water was getting faster and faster, and no one knew where it led.
What if there was a massive waterfall up ahead?
That would be certain death!
Falling off a waterfall would be like jumping off a building. When someone falls from a height, the impact of hitting water is as bad as hitting concrete.
So, it had to be now.
“Heh!”
Wang Yun grunted, throwing his weight to the left. He stretched his left hand out to grab hold. At the same time, he used every bit of strength in his right hand to shove Xiao Gang to the left.
Their bodies tilted more toward the shore on the left.
“Just a bit more, just a bit more!”
Brother Hu, at the back, had the most momentum to the left thanks to the inertia. Whether they could grab onto the water grass on the left now depended on him. Wang Yun had already shifted far to the right, giving Brother Hu the best chance.
“Brother Hu, it’s all on you!” Wang Yun shouted.
The nearest landing point was just 500 meters away.
“Got it!” Brother Hu roared.
He kicked his legs frantically underwater. He gritted his teeth and spread his fingers wide, as if he were wrestling with an evil spirit. His face twisted with effort, even the corners of his mouth were straining.
Four hundred meters.
Three hundred fifty meters.
Two hundred meters.
Thirty meters.
“Brother Hu!”
“Brother Hu, grab it!”
“Almost there, Brother Hu, go for it!”
The three of them shouted in unison, their voices ringing out as one. Three pairs of eyes stared intensely at the scene.
Brother Hu’s hand trembled as it reached out over the water’s surface, shaking from sheer exertion. He gritted his teeth so hard it looked like his eyes might pop out.
Three meters. One meter.
And then, at the last half a meter.
Snap! Brother Hu grabbed onto a stone. He had yanked at the water grass all the way, tearing it from its roots, but only this stone was firmly lodged by the shore.
“Ahhh!!”
Brother Hu’s fingers latched onto the stone like a drill, gripping so hard that his knuckles turned white. His fingers bent and twisted under the pressure, the bones nearly jutting out from the strain.
Meanwhile, his other arm, which was being pulled by the Wang Zi, felt like it was being torn apart. He could clearly feel the searing pain coursing through his body. It was as if he was being ripped in half.
“Ahhh!”
Brother Hu kept roaring, slowly pulling his arm that was holding the wang Zi back towards him.
“Hold on, Brother Hu! Just a little more, you’re almost there!”
Wang Zi was inching closer and closer to the shore.
They were just a hand’s length away from the shore. Then, a sharp crack suddenly rang out.
Brother Hu’s wrist had dislocated.
“Ah!”
A wave of pain shot through his entire body, making his scalp tingle. His face, which had been flushed and swollen from exertion, turned ghostly pale from the pain.
“Brother Hu!”
Wang Yun clearly heard the sound of the dislocation. His heart sank.
Without hesitation, Wang Zi let go of Brother Hu’s hand and quickly grabbed a thick handful of water grass from the shore.
“Hold on!”
Wang Zi’s arm was now bearing the weight of all three of them. With one person less, the water grass miraculously held firm and didn’t snap.
“Brother Hu, get up first!”
With Wang Zi holding onto the grass, the weight was lifted from Brother Hu’s side. He scrambled up immediately, then reached down and grabbed Xiao Gang’s arm with one hand. He pulled Xiao Gang to the shore. Once Xiao Gang got a steady foothold, Brother Hu helped Wang Yun up.
As soon as Wang Yun stood on solid ground, he grabbed Brother Hu’s wrist.
“This is going to hurt a bit, but hang in there.”
Wang Yun, ignoring the water streaming down his body, looked seriously at Brother Hu.
Brother Hu, pale-faced, nodded. “It’s just a dislocation, no big dea—ahhh!”
Before he could finish, pop. A sharp sound echoed as his wrist snapped back into place.
Xiao Gang and Wang Zi had also made it ashore by now. The four of them stood by the riverbank, looking a little dazed.
That had been way too close. A tiny mistake and their bodies could’ve ended up forever lost in the deep jungle.
