Chapter 293: Mutant Spider—This Thing Acts Like a Human!
by tinytreeAlfa swallowed hard, raising his hands slowly and keeping them steady.
“Captain Marley, listen to me. First, stay calm. Try to move your body very slowly. Keep it as slow as possible. Spiders like this are almost blind. But whatever you do, don’t touch its web. The web acts like its eyes, so be careful.”
Alfa’s voice was tense, but he was doing his best to sound calm.
Marley’s lips twitched. He couldn’t even move his eyes. He took a shaky breath, hands braced on the ground and began inching his body up, slow and steady.
“Good. Keep it up. There’s no web on your left side, so move that way,” Werner whispered.
The soft rustling of leaves sounded way too loud in the dead silence of the night.
Then—hiss, hiss, hiss…
The Boni Spider moved. Its mouth spewed webs like crazy, and the threads seemed to sense Marley. Suddenly, the sticky web flew straight at his face, like a gooey net with a mind of its own.
“Ahhhhh!” Marley screamed, the sound echoing through the jungle.
“Stop yelling! Close your mouth! Don’t let the web get in!” Alfa shouted.
Hardy and Werner, seeing things go south fast, grabbed their guns and fired at the Boni Spider without hesitation. Not their prop guns but their real ones. Since they had adventured in the jungle, they also took their real weapon.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The gunshots thundered through the jungle, shaking the trees so hard that leaves rained down, covering Marley’s head. They clung to the spider webs, sticking like glue.
Hiss, hiss, hiss!
The Boni Spider kept spewing out webs, strands thick and suffocating, wrapping around Marley. His mouth snapped shut as the sticky webs coated his face, smothering his eyes, nose, and cheeks. Panic set in. He clawed desperately at the webs. But the moment he moved, the spider seemed to sense him, and—
In a flash, the spider shot two webs, pinning Marley’s hands to a branch, as if nailed in place. A muffled scream escaped him as he struggled frantically, but he couldn’t break free.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The bullets flew as Hardy and the others fired in a panic.
But with Marley tangled up, they couldn’t shoot recklessly, afraid of hitting him.
“This won’t work! At this rate, Marley’s gonna suffocate if the poison doesn’t get him first,” Hardy yelled, sweat dripping down his face.
Werner and Alfa were equally frantic, their eyes wide with worry.
Werner suddenly tossed his gun aside. “Stop shooting! I’ll draw its attention away!”
Without waiting, he grabbed a branch from the ground and lunged at the Boni Spider, jabbing at it with all he had.
Thud! Thud!
With a swift jab, Werner stabbed the Boni Spider right in the back, twice. The spider’s back was soft and covered in hair, which felt incredibly gross to the touch.
Hiss!
The spider recoiled in pain, squirming along its web as it climbed higher like it was planning to escape. But it kept spewing webbing from its mouth, wrapping Marley tighter and tighter, binding him completely to the tree trunk.
“This is bad. It’s about to attack! Spiders dive from above to strike. It’s locked onto you!” Alfa shouted as he saw the spider climbing rapidly.
“While it’s coming for me, get Marley free,” Werner yelled, clenching his jaw.
He quickly grabbed his gun again. He held a branch in one hand and the gun in the other, trying to steady himself. He was visibly tense.
“I’m with you.”
Hardy picked up a rock, moving beside Werner. A few other teammates rushed to join them, standing their ground. Alfa and his crew stayed ready, watching closely.
Hiss, hiss!
“It’s coming!” someone shouted as the spider’s shadow reappeared through the fog.
Suddenly, it shot down at them from above. Its huge body hurtled toward them, moving shockingly fast. As it descended, four strands of webbing whipped out like flexible swords, aiming right at them.
“Damn! It’s wrapped around my arm!”
“Old Chen, your neck!”
The sticky strands lashed out, wrapping around their weapons, necks, arms, and legs, pulling tight and locking them in place.
Luckily, everyone was prepared. They grabbed their knives and hacked away. But as soon as they started cutting, panic set in. This wasn’t just webbing, it was like steel wire.
“It’s not working! We need more people. This thing’s mutated, and the strands won’t cut,” Alfa shouted.
Two of them hacked and yanked at the web covering Marley, but the strands barely budged. They managed to clear the webbing around his mouth just enough so he could breathe.
“My chest… it hurts! Help me, help!” Marley managed to gasp. He was completely wrapped in thick, wire-like strands, compressing his chest and ribs so tightly that he could barely breathe. Sweat poured down his face from the pain.
“Hardy, you go get him out, I’ll hold this thing off. It’s mutated, almost human-like,” Werner yelled, stomping his foot for emphasis.
“Got it!”
Hardy didn’t waste a second and rushed over to free Marley. But the Boni Spider above wasn’t about to let him escape so easily. Two more strands shot out, heading straight for Hardy’s legs.
