    Chapter Index

Director Fang’s announcement threw the staff into a flurry. Some of them—especially the more sensitive ones—were wiping away tears, caught up in their own memories of struggle and hardship.

Meanwhile, Wang Yun, the one who had set all this in motion, looked completely unbothered, almost bored. But that calm look hid his real thoughts. Inside, he was actually feeling pretty triumphant.

‘Fearless poor guy, my foot,’ he thought, amused.

In truth, he was terrified. He just couldn’t show it. Without the system’s support, he’d be long gone by now. No way he’d be out here doing car chases or crazy escapes.

‘Guess my acting skills are really leveling up,’ Wang Yun mused, silently patting himself on the back. ‘This god-tier acting skill has definitely come in handy.’

Just then, Wu Yaoming and his team came into view, only about a hundred meters away now.

A whistle echoed through the fog. It was Wu Yaoming’s team, signaling for a reply. Wang Yun turned and gave Captain Alfa a nod. He didn’t need to say a word. Captain Alfa grabbed his whistle and blew a loud reply.

The seven-man squad instantly perked up.

“Captain Hardy, Captain Werner, is that you?” Wu Yaoming’s voice cut through the fog, tense with worry.

“It’s us! Wang Yun’s here with us!” Hardy shouted back without missing a beat.

In the thick fog, the sound of weapons being readied filled the air.

“You’re actually pulling a gun? You think you can hit me through this fog?” Wang Yun sneered. “I’m standing right here in front of your captains. If you don’t want them hurt, I’d suggest you put those weapons away.”

He glanced in Wu Yaoming’s direction. Wu Yaoming and his fifty-man squad stood frozen in the mist, not daring to move. After all, they were up against Wang Yun—the guy who could storm an entire base alone. Facing him here was no joke.

“Wang Yun, I advise you to think this through. Surrender now and admit your crimes,” Wu Yaoming shouted, his face turning red as soon as the words left his mouth.

Even he felt embarrassed by how empty they sounded.

“Surrender?” Wang Yun raised an eyebrow, then aimed his gun with a quick motion.

A deafening shot rang out. A second later, the sound of an elimination alarm beeped from one of the nearby program inspectors.

    “Wang Yun!” Wu Yaoming yelled.

Wang Yun lowered his gun and glanced down at the fallen inspecor, who looked back with a face full of complaints. Hard to tell if he was blaming Wang Yun or Wu Yaoming’s big mouth. Seriously, advising Wang Yun to surrender at a time like this? Yeah, right.

“Enough with the useless talk. You know what I want,” Wang Yun said, sounding impatient as he kept his gaze fixed on Wu Yaoming’s squad.

Hardy and the others barely dared to breathe. They’d seen what Wang Yun was capable of. Right now, they just wanted to stay alive, maybe make it through a few more episodes to show off their skills. Plus, some of them were still single, so getting a little screen time might help them land a few fans back home. Even if they got eliminated by Wang Yun, at least they’d leave famous.

“Oh? Still haven’t put your guns down?” Wang Yun sneered, his voice carrying through the toxic fog.

Through the thick mist, Wang Yun could clearly make out Wu Yaoming and his team. They still had guns in their hands.

Wu Yaoming froze. He was surprised. All he could see was the dense fog around him and the men close by. He couldn’t even spot the guys in the back. But somehow, Wang Yun could see all of them?

Where was he hiding? How was he doing this?

Though suspicious, Wu Yaoming signaled his team to put their weapons away. Better safe than sorry.

“Wang Yun, since you lured us here, you must have a reason,” Wu Yaoming said, stepping carefully toward the sound of Wang Yun’s voice. “Tell us what you want. I don’t think you really want to kill anyone.”

He moved slowly, inching closer. The last thing he wanted was to walk into another one of Wang Yun’s traps. Those early factory booby traps had left him scarred.

“Ah, so Captain Wu understands me,” Wang Yun chuckled, watching them inch forward like they were tiptoeing over eggshells. “But I don’t need you telling me what to do.”

His tone darkened in an instant, sending a chill down Wu Yaoming’s spine.

This guy was impossible to read. He was either laughing one minute or staring them down like some cold-blooded criminal the next. Honestly, if they weren’t all on a show, Wu Yaoming would’ve believed this guy really was some ruthless fugitive.

As he approached, Wu Yaoming’s figure slowly emerged from the fog. His eyes met Wang Yun’s, and he could feel his heart hammering in his chest.

Wu Yaoming instinctively reached for his gun, but froze in shock when he saw the other captains tangled up in webs, unable to move.

“Alright, out with it, what do you want?” Wu Yaoming forced himself to stay calm.

He tried to keep his voice steady as he looked at Wang Yun.

“Oh, it’s nothing much,” Wang Yun said casually. “But I bet you’re curious how they ended up all wrapped up like that. Well, it wasn’t my doing, they ran into a spider. A big one. I actually saved them by burning it to a crisp.”

Wu Yaoming’s gaze shifted and landed on a dark, charred mess a few feet ahead.

Wang Yun was telling the truth. He really did save them.

“Yeah, I don’t buy it. No way you’re that nice,” Wu Yaoming said, still wary.

Behind him, his men caught sight of the burned remains on the ground. Memories of the terrifying lizard they’d faced flashed through their minds, sending a shiver down their spines. And Wang Yun—he’d taken down a deadly creature alone? These things weren’t your run-of-the-mill poisonous creatures. If that was a spider, it had to be some kind of mutated, venomous monster.
