Chapter 301: Ambush? Courting Death! Too Late to Stop Me!
by tinytree“Everyone’s here. Never seen it this lively before,” Wang Yun said, striding forward with long, confident steps.
Wu Yaoming took a cautious step back, returning to the tree where he’d stood before. The five captains under the tree looked especially pitiful, like abandoned puppies. Their eyes were filled with hope as they stared into the distance, watching for their rescuers.
“I’ve brought the man. Now let them go,” Wu Mingyu demanded, his sharp gaze locked onto Wang Yun.
This time, he’d brought twenty people along.
He wasn’t planning on clashing head-on with Wang Yun. The moment Fustan had returned and reported that Wang Yun was immune to the poison mist, Wu Mingyu knew they couldn’t win inside the mountain without pouring every ounce of their strength into the fight.
And now, with five captains in Wang Yun’s hands, they had to tread even more carefully. One wrong move could lead to irreversible regret.
Wang Yun nodded as he casually toyed with the gun in his hand.
This gun was his final trump card. Before entering the mountain, he had made sure to secure it and keep it hidden. Even Brother Hu and the others hadn’t known he had it.
If the program inspectors had realized he was armed, it would have put them on high alert. That’s why Wang Yun had sworn not to reveal it unless absolutely necessary.
And today was one of those times.
“Alright, show me your sincerity,” Wang Yun said, tilting his chin and signaling with his eyes.
Wu Mingyu gave a decisive wave of his hand, and one of his men stepped forward to unlock Xiao Gang’s handcuffs and shackles.
“Boss, are you alright?!”
The moment Xiao Gang regained his freedom, he dashed to Wang Yun. His face was full of relief and excitement.
“What could happen to me? It’s them you should be worried about.” Wang Yun leaned in slightly and spoke to Xiao Gang in a low voice. “Go. Head west. I’ve left markers along the way. Brother Hu is waiting for you there.”
Xiao Gang hesitated. “But what about you, Boss?”
There was only one Wang Yun, and the other side had close to thirty people.
Wang Yun chuckled and raised his voice so everyone could hear.
“If I was capable of capturing these five captains, do you think I wouldn’t have left myself a way out? The area’s already rigged with traps. If anything happens to me, no one here is leaving this mountain alive.”
His words sent a shiver through the crowd.
Wu Mingyu’s eyes narrowed slightly. As expected, this guy had come prepared.
“You can relax,” Wu Mingyu said. “We always keep our word. Since this is an exchange, we’ll let you leave as agreed.”
Wang Yun didn’t bother responding. Instead, he urged Xiao Gang again, “Hurry up and go.”
Trusting Wang Yun, Xiao Gang nodded and sprinted west without looking back.
“You’ve got your man. Can we have our teammates back now?” Wu Mingyu asked.
Wang Yun nodded.
Behind him, the five captains, including Wu Yaoming, walked back to their team with cautious, nervous steps. But just as Wu Yaoming and the others reunited with their group, something unexpected happened.
Hardy suddenly drew his gun and fired directly at Wang Yun.
“Kill him!”
Gunshots erupted once again, echoing throughout the mountain.
“Captain Hardy!” Wu Yaoming shouted, trying to stop him, but it was too late. Among the twenty or so investigators present, a handful were Hardy’s subordinates. At his command, they immediately opened fire.
“You’re courting death.”
Wang Yun’s expression darkened, and as his words fell, his body began to move.
Divine Movement!
This was the skill Wang Yun had exchanged for using shock points the night before. Divine Movement functioned similarly to a short dash, covering only a limited distance and lasting only a brief moment. It could be used just once a day and remained active for no more than five seconds.
“Defend. Now!” Wu Mingyu barked, taking swift control of the situation.
At his command, everyone fell into formation, standing back-to-back in a tight “V” shape to cover all angles.
“What the— His speed!”
Hardy had fired three shots in quick succession, but when he looked again, Wang Yun—who had been standing not far from him—had vanished.
In the blink of an eye, Wang Yun reappeared right beside him.
“Captain, watch out!”
A team member near Hardy reacted instantly, throwing himself between them without hesitation.
The team member’s protective suit was torn apart in an instant, exposing his bare skin. Then, with a quick motion, Wang Yun ripped off the man’s gas mask and tossed it aside.
“My mask!”
The team member’s eyes widened in panic as he instinctively covered his mouth. But it was too late. He’d already inhaled the toxic gas.
It wasn’t clear whether it was due to the sheer tension in the air or because the poison mist lingering from the previous day had grown even more concentrated overnight. The team member, after inhaling just a single breath of the gas, collapsed to the ground with a thud.
“Wang Yun!” Hardy shouted, too stunned to fully process what had happened.
He raised his gun, ready to fire again, but—
With a single swing of his arm, Wang Yun knocked the weapon out of Hardy’s hands. In the same motion, Wang Yun reached for Hardy’s gas mask.
Before he could grab it, another program inspector lunged in to block him.
Wang Yun shifted his target without hesitation, taking down the intervening team member instead. In his hand—no one had noticed when it appeared—was a gleaming knife. With a swift slash, the blade tore through the team member’s collar, leaving their protective gear exposed.
“You’re already dead.”
Wang Yun stood back up, his knife moving like it had a mind of its own.
He darted among the inspectors, his movements impossibly fast, leaving only flickering shadows and gusts of wind in his wake.
The program inspectors could only feel the cold touch of air against their necks as their protective suits were sliced open one after another.
“Wang Yun, stop! I’ll let you go! Everyone, stop fighting!”
Wu Mingyu, shielded in the center of the group, was watching helplessly as more and more elite inspectors were eliminated, their suits slashed by Wang Yun’s blade. The rising number of casualties had pushed Wu Mingyu to his breaking point. His voice trembled as he shouted, desperate to end the chaos.
“Stop? It’s too late.”
A chilling, almost devilish voice whispered in Wu Mingyu’s ear just as he finished speaking.
