Chapter 318: Earthquake? I Thought It Was a Trampoline!
by tinytree“Boss, the water’s coming in!” Brother Hu shouted again.
Earlier, when they were scouting the area, he had accidentally walked into a swamp. That swamp looked no different from ordinary ground, but the moment Brother Hu stepped in, the mud swallowed him up to his thighs.
Terrified, he fell back onto the ground and tried to pull his leg out, but the more he struggled, the deeper he sank.
Fortunately, Xiao Gang and Wang Yun were nearby and quickly pulled him out.
The memory of stepping into the swamp still made Brother Hu’s scalp tingle.
The Smoky Forest looked safer than the surrounding mountains, with fewer poisonous creatures, but it was filled with hidden traps. One careless step could be fatal.
Wang Yun frowned as he looked at the seawater pooling at their feet.
“Don’t panic. A swamp doesn’t form from just a bit of water,” he said calmly. “Besides, we’re not going to drown here, it’s not like we’re in the middle of the ocean.”
After speaking, he glanced toward the distance.
Waves of seawater continued to surge toward them. Honestly, he had no idea how long this earthquake would last. From what he’d seen on TV, most earthquakes typically lasted a few hours, with aftershocks in between.
The first quake was always the most intense. As long as they survived the initial impact, the subsequent ones wouldn’t be as dangerous.
“I’ll go find some leaves to reinforce the area,” Wang Yun said. “You two stay here. Don’t move around unnecessarily, especially near areas with a lot of seawater.”
After giving his instructions, he climbed over the makeshift wall they had built, which was as tall as his thighs and ran toward the distance.
“Boss, be careful!” Xiao Gang shouted after him.
The two remaining men quickly bent down to continue scooping water out of their small enclosure.
In the livestream, viewers watched Wang Yun’s perspective with bated breath.
There weren’t many trees in the area, and large, sturdy banana-like leaves were even rarer. Every step Wang Yun took was accompanied by tremors in the ground, making it difficult to maintain his balance. Even with his athletic abilities, he occasionally stumbled.
“Found it!”
About a kilometer away, Wang Yun came across a dense patch of shrubs.
Among the shrubs were low-lying plants that looked more like oversized wild grass than actual trees.
These plants had large leaves with a special membrane on the surface, formed by secreted oils. The shiny coating made the leaves waterproof, which was exactly what Wang Yun needed.
He quickly began picking as many as he could, planning to use them both to seal gaps and to lay on the ground for a dry resting spot. Standing for too long was exhausting, and they needed a place to sit and recover.
After stripping the area bare of these giant leaves, Wang Yun hurried back.
Upon returning, he saw that the water inside their enclosure had risen to knee level.
“Damn, Boss! Are you planning to build a house with all those leaves?” Brother Hu exclaimed when he saw Wang Yun carrying a pile of leaves taller than himself, resembling a small mountain.
“You’ll never scoop all this water out. Just kick a hole in the wall and let it drain,” Wang Yun shouted, frustrated by their clumsy efforts.
Xiao Gang immediately complied, stomping a hole in the wall to let the water flow out.
“Follow me. We’re rebuilding this,” Wang Yun said, dropping the leaves beside them.
He began digging a channel through the ground to direct water outside the enclosure. With the makeshift drainage system in place, even if more seawater entered, it would be redirected away.
Next, Wang Yun started reconstructing the wall using leaves and stones. Since there wasn’t enough time to let the mud dry, he wrapped it in layers of leaves and stacked it.
The walls were reinforced layer by layer, with leaves on the outside to prevent water from seeping through. After multiple layers, the enclosure was sturdy enough to hold for the time being.
Finally, Wang Yun took the driest leaves from the pile and spread them on the ground, creating a small, five-square-meter space for them to sit. He even fashioned a simple leaf cover overhead.
Exhausted, the three of them collapsed onto the leaf bedding.
The ground beneath the leaves was damp and cold, but it was a relief to finally sit.
The livestream audience was stunned.
They were sitting? In the middle of the earthquake’s epicenter?
While others were screaming and running for their lives, these three were sitting calmly, almost like they were on a trampoline.
Especially Wang Yun, whose expression showed no tension at all. His body bounced slightly with the trembling ground, but he seemed almost to enjoy it.
“Wow, I kind of want to experience it myself!”
“Experience? Call it what it is. Suicide!”
“Is no one acknowledging how amazing Big Brother is? He outsmarted technology and scientists by predicting the earthquake!”
“And now he’s calmly teaching survival techniques in the middle of it. He’s, showing everyone how to maintain their composure. Are you not seeing this?”
The livestream chat erupted with comments, as viewers marveled at Wang Yun’s composure and resourcefulness.
