    Chapter Index

Everyone held their breath as they stared intently at the scene unfolding before them.

A familiar sound echoed once more, followed by a faint crackling noise. The rope had latched onto the helicopter. It wrapped securely around the aircraft’s tail, coiling five full loops.

    “Ah! It caught! It’s hooked!”

“He did it! He did it! I can finally go to the bathroom! I’ve been holding it in forever!”

“Oh my God, I nearly peed myself. Now what happens next?”

    Cheers erupted among the viewers.

Wu Yaoming clenched his fist in triumph and shouted, “Yes!”

Back in the studio, the executive producer was so ecstatic he flung his script onto the ceiling and yelled, “We’re having a celebratory feast tonight. On me!”

The staff erupted in excitement. It was unprecedented for someone as notoriously stingy as the producer to make such a declaration.

    But the jubilation was short-lived.

The screen showed Wang Yun hanging onto the rope below the helicopter. It was a success, but only halfway there. The hardest part was yet to come.

    “Hah!”

With a low growl, Wang Yun yanked on the rope with all his strength, pulling it taut as he wrapped it around his arms. His body dangled precariously in mid-air. The helicopter lurched violently under the added weight. The pilot, experienced and composed, quickly stabilized the aircraft.

“Get us out of here now!” Wu Yaoming barked.

Xiao Gang and Brother Hu had already been pulled into the cabin, but Wang Yun remained outside, clinging to the rope.

The distance between Wang Yun and the helicopter was roughly fifteen meters.

For the next ten minutes, the helicopter needed to traverse from the Smokey Forest to the port. It was a journey of mere minutes under normal conditions.

But for someone like Wang Yun, hanging onto a rope with nothing but his arm strength while battling fierce winds, turbulent air currents, and towering waves, those ten minutes felt like a lifetime.

    “Wang Yun’s holding on!”

“Big Brother, don’t let go! Hang on tight!”

“Isn’t there a way to pull him up? Can’t we use a hook or something?”

Brother Hu and Xiao Gang shouted in desperation.

    Hardy frowned, scanning the cabin.

“There’s no hook. We only brought the bare minimum emergency supplies, nothing to pull him up.”

“Then what do we do? The helicopter’s swaying like crazy, how can he hold on? He’s only human!” Brother Hu was on the verge of tears.

The helicopter couldn’t fly too fast. If it did, the wind resistance would cause Wang Yun to swing wildly, making him nearly level with the helicopter itself. In such a scenario, the force of the rotor blades alone could deform his face, restricting his breathing and potentially leading to suffocation.

This was everyone’s greatest fear at the moment.

The roaring winds made it increasingly difficult for Wang Yun to breathe.

“Damn it,” Wang Yun cursed silently, his face distorted by the relentless gusts.

He gasped for air, his mouth contorted unnaturally with each breath.

Below him, the ground had completely crumbled away.

Behind him, the waves grew more ferocious. Massive walls of water rose higher and higher, each one closer than the last.

To make matters worse, the helicopter was now heading out over the open water.

Crossing the turbulent sea was the only way to reach the port on the opposite shore.

The sea below churned violently, as though monstrous creatures lurked beneath, their fury manifesting in towering waves.

“Fly higher! Big Brother’s going to hit the water!” Xiao Gang shouted frantically from the cabin, his eyes fixed on Wang Yun.

The helicopter’s altitude was dropping, leaving Wang Yun only five or six meters above the surging waves.

Just as Xiao Gang shouted, a massive wave surged up, engulfing Wang Yun entirely.

“Shit! Big Brother!” Brother Hu screamed.

Wu Yaoming’s pupils dilated as he yelled, “Raise the altitude! Wang Yun is submerged!”

“It’s not that simple! The air currents above the sea are too unstable. It’s completely uncontrollable!” the pilot shouted back, his forehead drenched in sweat. “If we’d taken off earlier, we wouldn’t be stuck in the storm at its peak!”

The tension in the cabin was palpable, the pilot’s frustration adding to the chaos.

“You’re saying rescuing Big Brother is inconveniencing you?!” Brother Hu’s temper snapped as he roared at the pilot.

At this moment, he wasn’t just playing the role of Wang Yun’s subordinate, he truly saw Wang Yun as his brother.

“Quiet! This altitude isn’t safe!” Wu Yaoming barked, grabbing a megaphone and leaning out of the cabin.

“The helicopter can’t go higher! You need to climb higher on the rope!”

    Climb higher on the rope?

Wang Yun, drenched and battered, heard the words and clenched his jaw. He had no choice. This was life or death.
