Chapter 327: A Calculated Escape!
by tinytreeJust when everyone thought Wang Yun was at his limit, collapsing and helpless, Zhao Youcheng suddenly stood up from watching the screen.
At the same moment, Ying Yuezi, who had been murmuring something under her breath, also rose to her feet.
“He’s faking it!”
“He’s pretending!”
Both spoke in unison, then exchanged a glance before urgently picking up the radio.
“Captain Wu, grab the rope now! Wang Yun isn’t in trouble, he’s pretending!” Zhao Youcheng shouted anxiously.
“That’s right!” Ying Yuezi chimed in, her words rapid as she explained. “The hand gestures he made weren’t a distress signal, they were telling them to run. A proper distress signal has the thumb tucked inside the palm, with the fingers repeatedly folding down over it. But Wang Yun’s gesture had the thumb outside the fingers. He was signaling them to hurry up and get down. And the labored breathing? It wasn’t genuine, it was a message to them: ‘If you don’t move now, you’ll all die!’”
Everyone on the helicopter heard her clearly.
“What? Grab the rope now! Pull it up!” Wu Yaoming barked orders, his tone sharp with realization.
“I can’t believe this! We’re trying to save him, and he’s orchestrating an escape!”
“Pilot, ascend immediately!”
Wu Yaoming, Hardy, and Werner all shouted at once, their voices a mix of frustration and urgency. But by now, brother Hu and Xiao Gang had already slid down the rope by about eight meters, placing them halfway down.
Wang Yun, meanwhile, was at the rope’s end, and he had anticipated this scenario.
As he reached the bottom, he began swinging the rope wildly, scanning his surroundings with sharp focus.
“The rope is swaying too much! I can’t hold the helicopter steady for much longer!”
“I can’t ascend! I’ll lose control in this turbulence!”
Both the pilot and Hardy shouted simultaneously, their voices laced with panic.
Wu Yaoming paced the cabin, desperately searching for anything that could help. He needed a way to stop Wang Yun—any weapon or tool that could ensure his capture.
But the helicopter was equipped for rescue, not combat. It was stocked only with emergency supplies.
“Wang Yun! We’re here to save you, and this is how you repay us?!” Wu Yaoming yelled through the megaphone, his voice trembling with anger.
Viewers watching the live broadcast couldn’t help but cover their faces in disbelief.
“Seriously, you’re trying to save him, but if you succeed, you’ll just arrest him afterward. What did you expect?”
No one could deny that they were enemies in this situation. Wang Yun wasn’t about to surrender himself willingly, even in the face of life and death. He played his role to the extreme.
Realizing the absurdity of his words, Wu Yaoming furiously tossed the megaphone aside.
Meanwhile, Hardy stared at the swaying rope just out of reach, frustration etched across his face.
“Old Zhao, get the program inspectors here now. Wang Yun hasn’t landed yet, we still have a chance,” Werner urged calmly.
“I’m already on my way. Try to guide the helicopter toward me,” Zhao Youcheng’s voice crackled through the radio, shaky from the effort of running.
Because of the ongoing seismic activity, vehicles couldn’t be used. Everyone had to move on foot, making progress painfully slow.
While the situation was dire, no one in the parking lot criticized Wang Yun’s tactics.
Though his actions might seem ruthless, even cold-hearted, people understood his position.
“This show is insane. Even during an earthquake, they’re still going after him!”
“Honestly, what’s the big deal if Wang Yun escapes? If they catch him, the show’s over anyway!”
“So intense! Watching this IRL feels way more nerve-wracking than anything I’ve seen online before!”
“Say what you want, but Wang Yun is a genius. He’s been playing them all along!”
Laughter and chatter spread among the evacuees, many of whom had once doubted the show’s authenticity.
“Who would’ve thought this wasn’t scripted?”
A live earthquake, a high-stakes helicopter rescue, and a daring escape attempt—all under the watchful eyes of the program inspectors. Wang Yun wasn’t just defying capture. He was toying with his pursuers, turning their concern into mockery.
As the helicopter descended further, aiming for a nearby grassy field, the tension grew palpable.
The field, a soccer pitch, had remained mostly intact despite the tremors.
The pilot skillfully guided the aircraft through the turbulence, stabilizing it for a landing.
“Captain, we’re about to touch down!”
But just as the words left his mouth, a blur of motion caught everyone’s attention.
Wang Yun let go of the rope. He dropped, free-falling toward the ground.
“Wang Yun jumped!”
The three Captains standing at the cabin door watched in shock as Wang Yun executed a daring leap.
At a height of just three meters, the risk was high, but he landed with a roll on the wet, rain-soaked grass.
Behind him, Brother Hu and Xiao Gang followed suit, tumbling onto the ground in rapid succession.
The slippery, muddy field cushioned their impact, allowing all three to recover quickly.
As if by instinct, they sprang to their feet and bolted toward the left without a moment’s hesitation.
