    The second shout—

Even Xiao Qiao herself was sure of it this time. Someone was calling her name.

“Someone’s shouting for me! Someone’s here to save us!”

Excited, Xiao Qiao immediately tried to climb out of the water, only for her boyfriend to hold her back.

“The rocks around us are burning hot! You’ll get burned! He’s nearby! He must have some kind of gear! We’re here!” Xiao Qiao’s boyfriend yelled at the top of his lungs.

At that moment, it felt like the light of life was finally reaching out to them.

“We’re here! There are people here!”

    “Over here!”

Everyone started shouting, voices hoarse with desperation.

But just as they raised their voices—BOOM!—a deafening explosion echoed from the distance, scaring the six of them so badly they instinctively ducked back into the water.

It was the sound of wood exploding under intense heat. As the fire burned rapidly, the trapped air inside the wood compressed until it finally burst apart.

Wang Yun clearly heard the explosion too.

But more importantly, he also caught the faint shouts right before it.

If it had been anyone else, they probably wouldn’t have noticed. The voices were barely audible, almost drowned out by the surrounding chaos.

“I found them! Thirty-five degrees to the left,” Wang Yun said into his earpiece, grabbed the branch in his hand, and sprinted toward the left.

Right now, his only mission was to get those people out. Fast.

If he didn’t, they wouldn’t be the only ones in danger. He’d be done for too.

    “Stay safe!” Li Long shouted.

“Don’t be reckless! Your safety comes first!” the executive producer followed.

    Both sounded deeply worried.

But Wang Yun didn’t have time to respond. He was already running full speed.

A firefighter standing near Li Long opened his mouth to say something but was immediately cut off by the captain.

“Relax. Wang Yun knows what he’s doing.”

“But, Captain! Running like that will make him breathe in more carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. He could suffocate,” the firefighter couldn’t help voicing his concern.

In fire rescue, sudden, intense physical exertion was a huge risk.

But if it was an emergency and there was a chance to escape quickly, it was sometimes the only option. After all, speed could mean survival.

Still, Wang Yun’s situation was different. He wasn’t just running for himself. He was trying to save others, which made it even more dangerous.

Li Long might’ve spoken confidently, but his eyes never left the screen.

Truth be told, he was a fan of Wang Yun. He’d watched every single episode of Wang Yun’s previous shows. If anyone knew what Wang Yun was capable of, it was him. And he believed in him.

    Splash!

After the explosion, the six people resurfaced, glancing around anxiously.

Everything still looked the same. The fire. The smoke. The heat.

“Did he hear us or not?!”

“Stop standing there like idiots! Shout again! If he can’t find us, we’re seriously gonna get cooked alive!” the blonde woman shrieked, completely ignoring the explosion.

    Everyone started shouting again.

But after yelling for over a minute, they got nothing in return.

“N-No way… He didn’t find us, did he?”

The short-haired woman’s voice trembled, her chest heaving from lack of oxygen. She’d been screaming so hard earlier that she was practically out of breath.

The others weren’t much better off, coughing violently as they gasped for air.

“It’s over! We’re really done for. He must’ve heard the explosion and ran off!” The blonde’s voice broke into sobs, her face flushed from the strain.

“With all this burning, the sound of the fire’s louder than our voices! We’re dead! There’s no way we’re making it out!” Even her boyfriend slumped in defeat, mumbling hopelessly. He looked completely wrecked, the despair clear in his eyes.

Xiao Qiao glared at the two of them, her patience snapping.

“Enough! Do you really think whining will save us?! What we need to do now is figure out how to make the rescue team see us. If they’ve come this far, they won’t just leave us behind.”

Determined, Xiao Qiao stood up, water splashing around her. Her eyes burned with resolve.

“I’m going out. I’m not waiting here to die!”

Her boyfriend immediately yanked her back.

“Are you insane?! You’ll die the moment you step out! Can’t you see how intense the fire is?”

His face screamed refusal, but Xiao Qiao had had enough. She shoved his hand away, anger flaring.

“If we don’t move, we’re definitely dead! We’re stuck in a pit surrounded by rocks. No one’s gonna find us unless we make it obvious. We’ve got no cell signal. My career just started picking up, I’m not dying here!”

Her voice was firm, her expression unyielding.

She wasn’t about to let her life end like this.

Seeing her so determined, her boyfriend hesitated, his gaze flickering. After a couple of seconds, he made up his mind.

    “I’m coming with you!”

Turning to the remaining four, his eyes grew cold and sharp.

“If you don’t wanna die, strip off all your clothes. Now! If we’re climbing out of this pit, we need something thick under our feet. Clothes are the only thing that’ll work!”

Gone was the usual calm, polite demeanor. In its place was someone fierce and commanding, like a man pushed to the edge.

The other four wanted to resist, but the look in his eyes was downright terrifying. Nobody dared argue.

Almost like they were possessed, they began peeling off every layer they could spare.
