Chapter 360: Bro, Saving Others Comes Second to Saving Yourself!
by tinytreeThe sudden voice made everyone freeze. One by one, they looked up in shock. When they saw the man standing by the creek, their faces lit up with excitement.
“Yes! Yes! We’re Xiao Qiao’s friends! Brother, save us. The water’s about to boil us alive!” the blonde woman’s boyfriend immediately shouted, even holding up his burned hands for Wang Yun to see.
Wang Yun quickly scanned the area, his gaze lingering on their soaked, tattered clothes.
It wasn’t hard to guess. They must’ve given their remaining clothes to Xiao Qiao and her boyfriend when they climbed out.
“Grab this branch. Girls first.”
Without wasting time, Wang Yun extended the branch toward them.
The rocks were way too hot for him to get any closer. This was the only way.
“But the rocks are burning! We can’t step on them! Brother, do you have any gear? You guys are firefighters, right? You must have equipment!”
The blonde’s boyfriend was still shouting. Even standing still, the water hitting his skin felt like boiling water splashing over him.
“Less talking, more moving!” Wang Yun snapped impatiently.
The blonde woman instantly felt offended.
“What kind of attitude is that? You guys are public servants! Our taxes pay your salaries, how dare you talk to us like that? All our clothes are gone! We gave them to those two, and now we’re left with nothing but a pair of shoes! And those are completely soaked through. Where’s the rest of your team? Get someone else to save us,” she screeched, while the short-haired girl frowned in agreement.
“Seriously, brother, we can’t get up. Look at my hands!”
The blonde’s boyfriend raised his burned palms again.
Wang Yun had no time to argue. His feet were already screaming in pain, barely able to hold him up.
Instinctively, he glanced down at his shoes. His rollerblade wheels had completely melted, sticking to the soles like melted plastic. The shoe bottoms were emitting steam, half-melted from the heat.
Even worse, at some point, the flames had burned through the front.
His toes were exposed. His big toe was completely blackened, blood seeping from the wound. His ankles and legs were covered in cuts and burns, the skin scorched black and red.
The moment the livestream audience saw this, they lost it.
“HOLY SHIT, HE’S INJURED!”
“Are these people brain-dead?! Why are they just standing there?!”
“Dude, he’s literally saving your sorry asses! Show some damn respect!”
“I swear to god, if anything happens to Big Brother, I’m hunting these idiots down!”
The chat was boiling with rage, messages firing off like machine guns. Even the executive producers couldn’t stay silent anymore.
“Brother Wang, leave. The fire’s too intense. Your body won’t hold up.”
The moment he finished, Captain Li Long chimed in, “Wang Yun, you’re already injured. If you keep pushing, your toe is at risk of amputation. If it gets infected, it could spread to your legs. You’re in no condition to continue rescuing.”
Li Long watched the footage on his phone, his heart in turmoil.
The other firefighters, seeing Wang Yun’s condition, all frowned deeply. They understood better than anyone that fire rescue required proper protective gear, including heat-resistant suits, masks, and oxygen tanks.
You never put yourself in danger unless you had the equipment to survive.
A one-for-one sacrifice wasn’t how professionals operated.
But right now, Wang Yun had nothing.
Rescuing two people already made him a hero. This was not the time to play the savior.
“You need to leave. You don’t understand. This isn’t heroism anymore, it’s suicide.”
But Wang Yun Didn’t Budge.
“I know what I’m doing.” His voice was low, but firm.
Without another word, he extended the branch again. This time, he didn’t even speak.
His eyes—he only part of his face not covered by the smoke-stained cloth—stared at them coldly.
The four people in the creek shuddered. Something about his expression made them uneasy.
The short-haired girl reacted first. She grabbed her boyfriend’s arm, gritting her teeth. Without even sparing the blonde woman a glance, she reached out and grabbed the branch.
“If we stay in this water any longer, we’re definitely dead. We have to try. I’ll go first. Stay close behind me!”
Wang Yun immediately started pulling.
At the same time, she used the branch for support and stepped onto the rocks.
The second her foot touched the surface, a loud sizzling sound filled the air. Her shoes were instantly scorched.
She let out a sharp gasp of pain, but she didn’t scream. She clenched her jaw, forcing every ounce of strength into her arms.
Right now, her life depended on it.
Wang Yun pulled harder, gripping the branch like a lifeline.
Under normal circumstances, pulling her up would’ve been easy for him. But now his body was barely holding together. He had lost too much energy. And worst of all, pulling meant using his legs for leverage.
His feet had to be planted on the ground. This time, the burning sound came from his own feet.
