Chapter 375: He’s Not an Arsonist, He’s a Savior!
by tinytreeZhao Youcheng walked directly toward the firefighters.
“This is the biggest fire I’ve had to deal with in years.”
“Those six people… well, they’ve definitely learned their lesson this time. The compensation they’ll have to pay for the damage to the forest alone will be enough to make them suffer.”
“I’m not really worried about that, though. What I want to know is what happened to Wang Yun. The captain told me he was already in critical condition when they arrived, and then… I saw the footage for myself.”
“Yeah, I heard about it too! He made a makeshift paraglider out of tree branches and clothing and jumped straight into the flames to save those people. That’s… that’s not something a normal person can do.”
Before Zhao Youcheng even reached the group, he could hear the firefighters discussing Wang Yun from a distance.
Their faces were blackened from the smoke, but their eyes shone with admiration as they spoke.
“Comrades, thank you for your hard work,” Zhao Youcheng greeted them.
The firefighters, who had been deep in discussion, turned to him with slightly puzzled expressions.
“We’re from the Skyeye Show, part of the program inspection team. We happened to be recording nearby,” Zhao Youcheng explained.
Just as he spoke, Li Long walked over.
“Captain!”
“Leader!”
The firefighters immediately stood up to salute their captain.
But Li Long didn’t even look at his team. Instead, his eyes locked onto Zhao Youcheng and his group, his expression complicated.
Zhao Youcheng immediately noticed his hesitation.
“If there’s nothing else, you should all go back and get some rest.”
“Yes, Captain!”
The firefighters hurriedly gathered their gear and left, leaving only Li Long standing behind. He then turned back to face Zhao Youcheng and his team.
“Mr. Zhao, I’ve heard a lot about you.” Li Long extended his hand. “I’m Li Long, the commanding officer for this operation.”
His tone made it clear that he wanted to talk privately.
The three men were slightly surprised but still smiled and shook his hand.
“Captain Li, I’m Zhao Youcheng, head of the program inspection team for the Escape Survival Show.”
Li Long nodded, skipping any unnecessary small talk.
“I have to say, your show is really something. And now, I finally understand why you’ve been unable to catch Wang Yun all this time.”
Unable to catch Wang Yun?
“Captain Li, what do you mean by that?” Wu Yaoming asked, confused.
Li Long waved his hands quickly. “No, no! I didn’t mean anything bad. “But what happened this morning… it shocked me to my core. I’m not sure if this violates the rules of your show, but I feel like I have to say it.”
Hearing that, Li Long paused for a moment.
Meanwhile, the cameras on Zhao Youcheng and his team were still rolling—broadcasting everything live.
The viewers in the livestream chat were watching intently, eyes locked on their screens. After all, they had already seen the reports about Wang Yun’s actions that morning.
So when Wu Yaoming previously questioned whether Wang Yun started the fire, the entire chat had exploded in collective outrage.
“Anyone can be falsely accused, but our hero— Wang Yun—CANNOT be wronged!”
“But it doesn’t matter,” Wu Yaoming added, trying to stay logical.
“Even if Captain Li reveals Wang Yun’s location, it’s reasonable. After all, he’s still a fugitive on the show.”
Li Long shook his head firmly.
“Then I’ll just say it straight. Even if I didn’t say anything, the producer would have told you sooner or later. The fugitive you’re talking about… This morning, he went into the fire alone and rescued six people with his own life. Because of his actions, he suffered severe burns all over his body. He literally put his own life on the line to save others.”
What?!
Trading his life for six others?
Wang Yun is the savior?
Not an arsonist?
“Captain Li… are you saying that Wang Yun is a hero?” Hardy was so stunned that he could barely form words.
Li Long nodded, his eyes full of admiration.
“Yes. A forest fire is one of the most dangerous disasters we deal with. As firefighters, we can’t just rush into the flames recklessly, it takes time to assess the situation. But Wang Yun? He was already on the mountain, and without hesitation, he paraglided straight into the fire. He almost burned to death doing it. This level of bravery is beyond what we usually call heroic. He’s more than just a hero. He’s a great man,” Li Long said, his eyes turned red.
His voice was choked with emotion.
Thinking back to when Wang Yun collapsed from exhaustion, Li Long couldn’t help but feel worried all over again.
But luckily, the producer had called him this morning to inform him Wang Yun was still alive. And somehow, his body had recovered far faster than expected.
That fact shocked Li Long. But at the same time, he felt immensely relieved.
Most importantly, the executive producer had mentioned that Li Long would soon have the chance to meet Wang Yun face-to-face.
Why?
The producer hadn’t revealed the reason yet.
After a long silence, Zhao Youcheng finally spoke.
“Wang Yun… he’s done so much, and we don’t even know the half of it.”
Beside him, Wu Yaoming’s face was burning with embarrassment. Because just moments ago, he had questioned whether Wang Yun was an arsonist.
One life… traded for six.
