Chapter 377: Months Later, the Second Season of the Escape Show Begins!
by tinytreeQian Guosen immediately pulled out his phone to make a call, but before he could even dial, the vehicles ahead came to a stop. A group of staff members with work badges stepped out, led by a man in his thirties, dressed in work overalls.
Several program Captains quickly stood up upon recognizing him.
“Director Li? What brings you here?” Wu Yaoming stepped forward, taking the initiative to ask.
Director Li was the designated liaison between the showrunners and the captains. He was also the one who initially invited them to participate in the program, making him an old acquaintance to many.
“It just so happens that everyone is already gathered,” Director Li said with a smile as he looked around.
With all the program inspectors and their captains present, his job had just become much easier.
Wu Mingyu, standing nearby, chimed in with a curious smile. “Director Li showing up in person… does this mean there’s a rule change?”
Ordinarily, production staff rarely made an appearance on the field. They typically remained in the observation room, monitoring the show from behind the scenes. Since the inspectors had taken direct action in pursuing contestants, it had become even rarer to see staff members in person.
Director Li gave a small smile, nodding at first before shaking his head. His unreadable expression left everyone slightly confused.
“That’s right, there have been some changes to the program, but it’s not a rule change,” he clarified. “I’m here today to inform you all that the filming of the show is officially being terminated.”
What?
The words hit like a bombshell.
The program captains were stunned, and even the inspectors who had been casually eating jumped to their feet, their faces filled with shock.
“Terminate the filming?! What do you mean?!” Hardy exclaimed, his voice rising in disbelief.
From the sidelines, captains Ying Yuezi, Marley, Werner, Alfa, and the rest hurried over, their expressions a mix of confusion and urgency. Within seconds, Director Li was surrounded by the team leaders, all demanding an explanation.
Zhao Youcheng subtly pointed to the live camera on his chest, silently signaling for Director Li to be mindful of his words.
Understanding the message, Director Li nodded and spoke in a serious tone. “This is a temporary decision made by Director Zhou,” he said. “And since all of your cameras are already rolling, I’ll take this opportunity to explain to both you and the audience.”
At that moment, viewers in the live broadcast room were left stunned. Some were watching from bed, others were glued to their computer screens, while many had been casually following along on their phones.
But the moment Director Li spoke, they all froze, sitting upright with full attention.
“This announcement is sudden,” Director Li continued, “but it was made for an important reason. Earlier this morning, Wang Yun risked his life in a fire rescue. The situation at the scene was extremely dangerous, and you will see footage of it circulating online soon.
“The six people who survived today did so because of Wang Yun. If not for him, there would have been casualties in this morning’s fire. However, because of his actions, Wang Yun suffered serious injuries. Additionally, Mr. Fang, who was serving as a guest instructor in our studio, fainted due to the emotional shock.
“Director Zhou and our production team have received overwhelming feedback from viewers, and their unified request is for Wang Yun to take time off to recover and rest. If we were to continue the show now, not only would Wang Yun’s health be affected, but let’s be honest, if he were to be caught at this point, it would feel unfair. So, the first season of the show is officially suspended.”
“But don’t worry!” Director Li emphasized. “One month from now, the show will return with Season Two. This time, the rules will change, and contestants will be selected through a global audition. Additionally, the program inspection teams will be reshuffled.”
The moment Director Li finished his explanation, an eerie silence filled the air. Every single person stood there in shock, their mouths slightly open. The disbelief in their eyes was evident.
“Wang Yun saved six people from a fire? And got seriously injured?”
“This is how Season One ends?”
“The next season is going global?”
“They’re restructuring the program inspectors?”
“This is all happening too fast!”
“Wait, wait—Season Two is starting in just one month?!”
A chorus of surprised voices erupted as everyone processed the news.
For the program captains, this announcement was game-changing. Meanwhile, the regular program inspectors remained silent, as they had no say in the decision. Regardless of the restructuring, their positions were safe. They had gained experience, and while new inspectors might join in the next season, their core positions would remain intact.
Zhao Youcheng raised an eyebrow, a faint smirk appearing at the corner of his lips.
He had only joined the show a week ago, and now it was already ending?
That was too fast.
But what shocked him even more was learning that Wang Yun had been injured and that Old Fang had collapsed.
Taking a deep breath, Zhao Youcheng nodded before extending his hand toward Director Li with a smile.
“In that case, I’ll follow the program’s decision,” he said. “I look forward to working together again next month.”
