    Chapter Index

As Wang Yun and his group descended the mountain, the executive producer’s team arranged for someone to meet him.

The moment Brother Hu and Xiao Gang saw the car parked ahead, their first instinct was to run.

“Boss, this has to be a program inspector! Are you crazy?”

“Yeah! We don’t even have weapons now! There’s no way we can fight back!”

Both of them shouted at the same time, looking panicked.

Wang Yun glanced at them and chuckled. They were way too deep into the role.

With a soft click, the car door swung open.

A man stepped out—Director Li, the same person who had just met with the program inspection Captains. His work badge hung from his neck, identifying him as a key figure in the production team.

“Wang Yun, it’s a pleasure to meet you again,” he greeted with a polite smile. “This is our second time meeting, and I have to say, you’re even more charismatic than before.”

Though his words were respectful, his tone had the usual formal stiffness of a production lead.

Viewers in the live chat immediately picked up on this and flooded the comment section with jokes.

“Big Brother is Big Brother. Even the show’s director has to humble himself!”

Wang Yun extended a hand indifferently. “Yeah, Producer Zhou already filled me in.”

This was actually Wang Yun’s first time meeting Director Li. He had no memory of how he got into the show, how he signed up, or how he was selected. But based on what Li was saying, it seemed like he had gone through some sort of screening process.

Brother Hu, still confused, scratched his head. “Huh? Director? What kind of director? Boss, what’s going on?”

Xiao Gang frowned, eyes filled with suspicion.

The two of them had never seen Director Li before. In their minds, he was just another program inspector sent to capture them.

Before they could get any more worked up, Wang Yun sighed and decided to explain.

“Before you two arrived, Producer Zhou spoke to me. He told me to meet up with you because I got injured this morning while rescuing people. I know it doesn’t look serious on the outside, but my chest is still tight, and my whole body is aching. Because of this, the producer decided to pause the show. For the next month, we can all return to normal life.”

    Wang Yun’s explanation was straightforward.

Director Li nodded in agreement. “Yes, the first season of Escape has officially come to an end. The second season will begin in a month, and there will be major changes to both the rules and participants.”

Hearing this, Brother Hu and Xiao Gang froze.

    “Wait… what?”

    “It’s over?”

Their voices shot up in disbelief.

Brother Hu, in particular, reacted the loudest, his voice practically shaking the trees around them.

The sudden outburst made Wang Yun wince and cover his ears. “Can you not yell? My eardrums are about to burst.”

Brother Hu, ignoring his complaint, lunged forward and grabbed Wang Yun by the shoulders.

“Boss, you’re injured?! How bad is it?”

He frantically tried to inspect Wang Yun for wounds, but Wang Yun pushed him away.

“Relax. It’s not like you can see internal injuries just by looking,” he said dryly.

Brother Hu and Xiao Gang still looked worried. They completely ignored the fact that the show was ending. They weren’t even paying attention to Director Li anymore. All that mattered to them was Wang Yun’s condition.

“Director Li! Call an ambulance! Why are you just standing there?” Brother Hu shouted.

    Director Li, ”???”

Just as Director Li was about to respond, Wang Yun cut in, “Calm down. I know my own body. I’m not about to drop dead anytime soon.”

Then, his expression turned more serious.

“But yeah… it looks like the three of us will have to part ways for a while.”

Brother Hu and Xiao Gang immediately fell silent.

It was the first time in a while that the two of them weren’t chattering non-stop.

Xiao Gang turned his face away, pretending to look at the sky.

Brother Hu lowered his head, deep in thought.

Wang Yun smirked. “What’s wrong? You two are usually full of nonsense. Why are you suddenly so quiet?”

    Neither of them responded.

Director Li, sensing the emotional shift, quickly stepped in. “Well, I can see you three have built a strong bond over this journey. Let’s get moving first, we can talk more in the car. There’s already a hotel prepared for you all, and tomorrow night, there will be a celebration banquet. Director Zhou will be there as well.”

With that, the three of them slowly followed him into the car, the weight of their upcoming separation sinking in.
