Chapter 410: What?! You’re Going to See That Playboy?!
by tinytreeAt that moment, a group of people exited the elevator.
At the front was a girl in a flowing purple dress, her long hair draped over her shoulders, walking with an expression of quiet anticipation.
As she moved through the crowd of off-duty employees, more than a few men couldn’t help but glance in her direction.
Walking beside the girl in purple was another young woman with short, tidy hair and a crisp business outfit. Her face radiated pure gossip energy as she tugged at her friend’s arm, firing off questions nonstop.
The girl in purple was none other than Xiao Yanran. She clearly didn’t want to talk much.
Her eyes remained fixed on the building’s entrance as her long, slender legs carried her quickly forward.
“It’s nothing, really. It’s not a date, just dinner, that’s all.”
Xiao Yanran’s voice was soft as she tried to brush it off.
The short-haired girl was her classmate and roommate, Zhu Xiaoxiao.
“What?! Dinner?!”
Zhu Xiaoxiao couldn’t help herself and practically shouted.
The sudden outburst made several of the male employees who had been admiring Xiao Yanran frown in disappointment.
Another beauty claimed by a pig.
“Who are you having dinner with? Don’t tell me it’s that ‘brother’ you mentioned yesterday!”
Zhu Xiaoxiao was completely oblivious to how loud she was being. Her face was practically glowing with nosiness and suspicion.
She and Xiao Yanran had been roommates since university. To her, Xiao Yanran was like a blank sheet of paper—pure and untainted.
These days, guys were more complicated than ever.
That was exactly why Zhu Xiaoxiao had gone to such lengths to help Xiao Yanran land a job at her own company—so she could keep an eye on her and shield her from harm.
In short, she was fiercely protective.
“Aiya! Lower your voice!”
Xiao Yanran could feel the gazes from all around. Her cheeks flushed bright red.
That soft blush only made the onlooking guys fall harder.
Their hearts practically skipped a beat.
In a world where more and more girls were jaded and materialistic, where else could you find one who turned red just from being teased?
The nearby men slowed their steps without realizing it, perking up their ears, trying to catch every word.
Who the hell is this ‘brother’? And how dare he steal our flower?!
Xiao Yanran stomped her foot and reached out to cover Zhu Xiaoxiao’s mouth.
But Zhu Xiaoxiao was fully fired up now. There was no stopping her.
She had spent so long protecting this delicate flower—how could she let it get trampled by some wild pig?
“Just tell me. Is it that ‘brother’ of yours or not?”
Zhu Xiaoxiao pushed again, eyes sharp and insistent.
Seeing how serious she was, Xiao Yanran didn’t dare play coy anymore and nodded quickly.
“Yes, it’s him. But don’t worry! He’s really kind, and he’s super upright! He’s not like what you think!” Xiao Yanran hurried to explain.
She didn’t mention Wang Yun’s identity.
Director Zhou had already warned her that very few people had seen Wang Yun’s real face, and they had to keep it confidential.
The show was planned to run for multiple seasons, and once Wang Yun’s face was revealed, it would only make future appearances more difficult and dangerous for him.
Xiao Yanran took this extremely seriously.
But Zhu Xiaoxiao wasn’t convinced at all.
“You… You’re so pure you don’t know anything! You met this guy online, didn’t you? Online! That’s not reliable at all! Just from the way he called you yesterday asking what gift to buy for a girl, he’s definitely a player! Think about it. He’s going on a date with you, but the gift isn’t even for you, it’s for someone else! You poor thing, you’re just too easy to manipulate!”
Zhu Xiaoxiao was now completely immersed in her own protective fantasy.
Her voice grew louder and angrier.
Yesterday, after Xiao Yanran took Wang Yun’s call, she had pressed for details.
Nervous, Xiao Yanran had said he was a net friend. And when Zhu Xiaoxiao heard that, it was game over.
She ranted all the way home, convinced this “net friend” was bad news.
He was clearly using Xiao Yanran for a trial run, throwing out feelers by asking what gift to buy, just to test if she was easy to control.
The more she thought about it, the more furious she became.
She even regretted suggesting jewelry. It made the guy think Xiao Yanran was materialistic, and now he probably thought she’d fold over a dinner and a shiny trinket.
“He’s not like that! I really know what kind of person he is.”
The two of them had walked all the way to the main entrance. Xiao Yanran was sweating in anxiety.
Wang Yun had messaged her, he was about to arrive.
But judging by Zhu Xiaoxiao’s current mood, she might just storm up and curse him out the moment he showed up.
That was what Xiao Yanran feared most.
If she had known it would go like this, she never would’ve called him a “net friend” last night.
“Not like that? You’re just too naive. Wanna bet? When he gets here, he’ll say it’s just a casual dinner, then he’ll pull out some seemingly expensive gift to win you over. Then during the meal, he’ll suggest going for drinks. After that, he’ll say it’s too late to go home and take you to a hotel! Next thing you know—boom, game over. And by the time you wake up, it’s already too late to regret it!”
Gasp!
Zhu Xiaoxiao’s words were getting more and more outrageous—she was running full tilt now.
The surrounding men who had been eavesdropping were so stunned they all inhaled sharply—in unison.
At least four or five of them let out an audible gasp together.
