Chapter 420: First Meeting the Elders, Shy Xiao Yanran
by tinytreeAt this moment, Wang Yun was so “poor” that all he had left was money. He didn’t give Xiao Yanran any chance to object; he simply went ahead and bought the gifts.
After that, he even dragged her along to pick out a few new outfits.
After all, they were going to meet the elders. Though her clothes were fine, once he started appearing on shows again, his “girlfriend” naturally had to be taken care of properly.
And so, for the entire afternoon, Wang Yun held onto Xiao Yanran’s hand as they went from shop to shop.
Their fingers remained interlaced the entire time.
And Xiao Yanran’s face remained flushed the entire time.
It wasn’t until they got into the car that she finally started to calm down. But even then, the back of her shirt had long been soaked with sweat.
Not that Wang Yun noticed any of it.
Still, the feeling of holding hands was… quite nice.
“Don’t be nervous later. Just say what you want to say. Sister-in-law is a good person. Director Zhou’s also very kind. Just treat it like hanging out with people our age.”
Knowing how reserved Xiao Yanran could be, Wang Yun spent a good forty minutes giving her a pep talk.
By the time he’d finished, they had already arrived at Director Zhou’s house.
Meanwhile, Director Zhou and his wife had been prepared for quite some time.
Truth be told, Sister-in-law was just as nervous as Xiao Yanran.
“Old Zhou, what kind of girl is this Xiao Yanran anyway? I’m really curious.”
Director Zhou glanced at his wife, who had been asking this same question all afternoon, and rolled his eyes helplessly. He didn’t even need to answer.
Sitting off to the side, nibbling on an apple, Piggy let out a long, dramatic sigh.
“Mom, you’ve asked this so many times, I can recite it by heart. She’s a sweet, pure girl, kind-hearted, came onto the show to help my godfather. That’s all Dad knows. Period.”
Piggy’s tone was as serious as that of a little adult. His posture and expressions matched perfectly.
“I know, I know. But I’m just so nervous. It feels like… like I’m meeting my future daughter-in-law!”
As soon as she said that, the sound of a car pulling up echoed outside.
“They’re here. Your daughter-in-law’s here.” Director Zhou got up with a grin.

Wang Yun had just parked when he saw the Zhou family of three coming out to greet them. Sister-in-law’s outfit today was even more formal than when he last saw her.
The moment Xiao Yanran stepped out of the car, Director Zhou’s wife rushed over.
“Oh my, you must be Yanran! Little Yun’s always talking about you. Seeing you in person, you’re even prettier than on TV!”
She warmly grabbed Xiao Yanran’s hands as she spoke.
Xiao Yanran took in the elegant woman in front of her. Her manner was friendly, but not overwhelming. Warm and measured—pleasant to be around.
“Hello, Sister-in-law.” Xiao Yanran greeted her politely.
Wang Yun casually slung an arm around her shoulders. After all, they’d been holding hands all afternoon—might as well keep going.
But unexpectedly, Xiao Yanran shrank away slightly, her face instantly turning as red as a tomato.
“Hahaha! Look at this, my little sister-in-law’s shy.”
Director Zhou burst into hearty laughter at the sight, making Xiao Yanran even more embarrassed.
“Alright, alright, enough chit-chat at the door. Let’s go inside, quickly.” Director Zhou’s wife grabbed Xiao Yanran’s hand and led her inside.
Meanwhile, as Wang Yun and Director Zhou followed behind, Director Zhou gave him a thumbs-up.
“Just like me back in the day!”
‘This young man is moving fast. He knows what he was doing.’
Wang Yun exchanged a knowing smile and raised his brow.
Once inside, Sister-in-law immediately started chatting with Xiao Yanran about everything under the sun.
Whoever said women’s small talk was harmless had clearly never seen Sister-in-law in action.
In less than thirty minutes, she had already unearthed all of Xiao Yanran’s background information. Which school her younger brother attended, his teachers’ names, his grades—nothing escaped her.
Wang Yun sat off to the side, utterly dumbfounded.
Yet through it all, Xiao Yanran didn’t feel even a hint of discomfort.
Because Sister-in-law’s way of conversing was simply masterful. It never felt like prying. Instead, it was like basking in a spring breeze—gentle and soothing.
Since Xiao Yanran was visiting, the men abstained from drinking that night.
The group chatted away until 9:30 PM before wrapping up dinner.
When Wang Yun sent Xiao Yanran home, he had originally planned to go up and sit for a while. After all, it was still early.
But Xiao Yanran gently refused him.
“Um, Xiaoxiao’s still upstairs. It wouldn’t be convenient.”
Standing downstairs, she kept her head down.
The moonlight cascaded over her, casting a silver glow around her.
Wang Yun couldn’t help but be entranced by the sight.
The way her long lashes caught the moonlight, their faint shadows brushing against her cheeks—it was a mesmerizing scene.
Not hearing a response, Xiao Yanran thought he was upset. She quickly looked up, only to meet his intense gaze head-on. Her heart instantly raced.
“Don’t be mad. I didn’t mean to reject you. Didn’t Sister-in-law give me the keys? I’ll move in with Xiaoxiao this weekend. When that happens, it’ll be much easier for us to meet.”
As she spoke, her heart was thumping so loudly, it felt like it might leap out of her chest.
Even her voice trembled.
In her twenty-two years of life, this was the boldest thing she had ever said. And she said it to a man she’d only met a few times.
